Daily Inspiration: Meet John Fleischmann

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Fleischmann.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is John Fleischmann. I am a concentrator photographer filmmaker out of Toledo, Ohio.

I want to pen a career Center for digital video production back in 2010 graduated in 2011. That’s where I learned the basics of what I do while in high school. I had a deep love for Music and I played in a band. I dreamed of pursuing music as a career and wanted to plan stage all over the world, but there was one thing that was holding me back – my health. I was born with a kidney disease called hydronephrosis and it was scary to have big dreams like this because I wasn’t sure how long I would be around for but in July 2014 I received a second chance at Life and got a kidney transplant. This opened all the doors that I thought had been closed most of my childhood. I had a significant increase in my energy, my workflow, my passions, and I decided to move full force into my music career. Eventually through my music endeavors the band I was in, got signed to a record label, got a booking agent and started traveling all over the world playing our original music. We toured across America multiple times and even played across Europe, Russia, and Japan.

As an original artist, you start to understand the importance of good photography and good videography for marketing purposes. This is where my skill set from high school began to kick in so I began to create photos and videos for the band I was in so that we could help push our music further. People began to see the work that I was doing with the band in terms of my photography and filmmaking work and requested for me to start making stuff for them instead, this became a snowball effect and led me to a new passion of photography and filmmaking for myself.

Fast forward to 2018. I decided to leave the band behind and pursue my own business of photography and filmmaking. I turned this into my full-time career working with bands and artists around the globe by making videos for them with my camera.

My business has been thriving ever since and this path has led me to meeting my wife, getting my first home, and having our first child.

I feel like my mission on earth. Here is to tell my story to let other people know that no matter how dark things may seem that you can eventually come out of the other side. I want people to know that if you are determined enough and you work hard enough that you can achieve things that you never thought were possible. I believe that if it wasn’t for my kidney donor none of what I’ve done in my life would’ve been possible.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not a smooth road. Before my transplant I was constantly worried about going on dialysis and I was worried how far I would even make it in life. I felt like this led to a lot of self-doubt and disbelief in what I could do based on my health condition. Before my transplant when I was 21 years old, I was 115 pounds sickly yellow looking and was just exhausted all of the time I had absolutely no energy to do what I wanted to do.

There was lots of trial and error with writing music and especially with starting your own business. There have been way more failures than there have been wins. But it’s important to remain consistent with your endeavors because even though there may be a lot of failures, that means that there will be a lot of lessons learned that can be applied to future wins.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photographer and filmmaker out of Toledo, Ohio. I specialize in Music Video production and Wedding photography. I think I’m known for my Music Video productions for sure but what I would really like to start getting into is simply telling the stories of the loved ones around me through high-quality video production.

I’m most proud of the journey that I’ve went on throughout all these years. The cards were stacked against me, and it didn’t seem like there was a possibility that I could do what I do, but they’re constant hard work and determination. I was able to do things that people only dream of and for that I am so blessed and thankful.

I think it sets me apart from others is my personal creative eye, paired alongside my drive to give the best customer service I possibly can. Anytime I get my camera out to work a job whether it be a wedding, a Music Video, a concert or whatever, my biggest goal in that moment is to ensure that whoever is in front of my camera feels as comfortable as possible.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is kind of hard to pinpoint because I had a lot of great moments. I remember hanging with friends playing card games, I remember hanging with Family all the time, riding bikes throughout my neighborhood, and truly just enjoying the freedom of being a kid. Even though my medical conditions prevented me from living life like other kids I never let it prevent me from having fun.
