Daily Inspiration: Meet George Salazar

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Salazar.

GEORGE SALAZAR

George, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Music runs in my blood. On my dad’s side of the family, just about every male plays an instrument or sings! My father played the drums, and so the drums always intrigued me. It’s actually kind of crazy; I tried out for choir in middle school and didn’t make the cut, and then I tried out for the drums and also didn’t make the cut. From there, I started writing rap with my friends just for fun in high school. When the New Boyz came out, I was super inspired by their colorful way of dressing, so I started dressing the part and really just fell in love with the art of writing and, at that age, the attention that came with it all. As I matured; I really fell in love with using my voice as an instrument and putting art together that impacted lives in a positive way. Now, I make everything from pop music, R&B, and hip-hop, and I have just recently started making my own beats. I’m 13 years into making music, and I still fall more and more in love with it every day!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has been everything but smooth. In High School, along with attention, came a lot of flack as well. I was so engulfed in the music that I cared less and less about keeping my grades up, maintaining relationships, and playing the three sports I loved: football, wrestling, and track. After High School, I couldn’t hold a relationship because anybody who didn’t support by dream, I resented, and it never ended well. I also tried the college thing when I went to Kent State University. I dropped out after about half of a semester because I felt like it was taking me away from my music. I can’t stress enough how important just MAKING music was to me. At this point, it wasn’t about attention, people’s opinions, none of that. It was a burning desire to just CREATE. Then, in 2016, I lost my mother. Thank God I had the music to get lost in because if it weren’t for the music, who knows how my life would have ended up.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Recording Artist, a Songwriter, and a Producer. I specialize in writing and performing Pop Music, Hip-Hop, and R&B music. As of right now, I am known for my breakout song, “Good Girl.” As a person, I am known for my resilience, my charisma, and my upbeat and positive attitude. I am most proud of the way I have been able to hold myself together and catapult myself to success despite all of my hardships. What sets me apart is easily my work ethic and my determination. Again, despite all of my hardships and battles, both internal and external, I am still standing, and I am still doing what I do at a very high level.
