Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Raymond.
Hi Elizabeth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I had some mental health complications and I was looking for a healthy way to destress and regain a healthy mental state. So, I began to hike for my life, literally, and with each step, I got better. Every mile I felt a little safer; a little more okay. While in my adventures I began to look closely at what the earth had to offer. At this point, I hiked almost daily whether by myself or with family. The colors were so immaculate; and all of a sudden, I started to see so many shapes and textures and I felt like I needed to express what I was seeing somehow. I stumbled across an epoxy purple pansy on Instagram and was taken aback, so I painted it with watercolors. It was when I finished, I had the thought that maybe I could try my hands at something similar. The next week I bought the supplies and began my art journey. I have been creating with non-toxic epoxy now for almost 3 years and I love that I am able to create, explore, and meditate while I make my one-of-a-kind creations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I struggled the most in the winter months. Anxiety kept me awake, Depression kept me tired. It was like being stuck in a vicious cycle. But it seemed the more I created the more I could understand my experiences and why I was having them. Each moment brought me to here. The good and the bad. But I made it. I found me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a non-toxic epoxy artist who uses real flowers to create one-of-a-kind pieces. I forage and press all of my own Ohio flowers and express myself through jewelry, accessories, and wall art.
What do you think about happiness?
My happy place is in the trees exploring and finding hidden treasures that earth has for us. It’s even better when my family comes along on adventures with me. I feel like I can breathe there; like I’m reteaching myself about balance and not everything has to be a rat race. We all have our own path; our own timeline.
