Today we’d like to introduce you to Daneen Kreuzer.
Hi Daneen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After selling my creations at craft shows for years, I finally started selling in stores. Eventually, I wanted to create my own retail space and truly design it to showcase artists in an upscale setting. We found the perfect spot in Downtown Wadsworth! The area is the perfect Hallmark downtown area.
Historic buildings filled with a bunch of unique shops and restaurants with local owners. We have approximately 4,000 square ft in 6 rooms, featuring 110 artists selling everything from Chocolate covered potato chips, to live edge wood, to embroidery, steampunk lamps, and everything in between!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has mostly been a smooth road. My husband and I mapped out a plan with deadlines along the way (and a few grace days just in case). Our building was built in 1866, so we had to learn quickly that we had to adjust nearly every display for uneven floors.
Luckily, we had over 200 talented artists who wanted to come to our store, so I had the luxury of selecting the best products without duplication. The City of Wadsworth, Wadsworth Chamber of Commerce, and Main Street Wadsworth have done so much to make us feel welcome and help drive business to our store. Of course, we have had many friends and family members who have been tremendously helpful!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My Aunt Mary and I specialize in wreaths and embroidery, we also do custom quilts as well. So many people who embroider, do very cute things. Mine tend to have a bit of a sarcastic edge to them.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
We were very lucky to find the location we did. Location is so vitally important in retail, especially for a new location from a sole proprietor. All the foot traffic generated by our surrounding businesses and special events in Downtown Wadsworth made getting our name out very easy.
