Today we’d like to introduce you to Charissa Gracyk.
Hi Charissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I loved watching fast-paced, exciting movies about people on the adventure of a lifetime, and the moment I finished Romancing the Stone, I knew that I wanted to be just like Joan Wilder—a romance novelist. I finished my first romance when I was 22 then tucked it away and my love for movies guided me to start writing screenplays. I’ve been lucky enough to dabble in independent filmmaking and produce and direct some of the scripts I’ve written. But, over the years, I always continued to read my romances and still yearned to go back to trying it again. Once Covid hit and everything shut down, I started looking into self-publishing and realized it was the way to go. I began writing, combining my love of action with steamy romance, and now here I am, twenty books later.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I had no idea what I was doing and jumped right into the deep end. Over time, I learned being an indie author is so much more than just writing a book. It’s also editing, formatting, cover design, graphics, social media, book signings, ads, marketing and promoting. The list of what needs to be done is endless and constant. Ironically, writing is only a small part of it. But, I love learning and I’m self-taught when it comes to book publishing. I’ve also built a solid group of author friends who I can always ask if I need help.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an independent author who writes steamy romantic suspense. My books are full of action, protector heroes and strong heroines. I spent twenty years screenwriting, so I think that has helped me write fast and develop exciting stories. After reading one of my books, my goal is to make the reader feel like they just watched a big summer blockbuster. I’m on the verge of releasing my twentieth novel which kicks off a brand new series about silver fox heroes and I couldn’t be more excited!
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
It took me forever to get where I am. I started out in journalism, moved over to creative writing and romance, then dove into script writing. Now, I’ve come full circle and I’m right where I should be– back writing what I love most which is romance and happily-ever-afters. I discovered it’s okay to stumble and get a little lost on the journey. Everyone takes a different road and that’s okay. Just find your reason why and keep going…
