Today we’d like to introduce you to Antoine Christopher.
Hi Antoine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, I started making music at a young age due to being a product of two musician parents. I started with drums in middle school and picked up piano a little bit. Being an engineer came randomly because my childhood friends wanted to rap, and I always had computers from my mother being a computer teacher. So, we started recording songs at my house, and before I knew it, I started wanting to make everything sound better, which led me to being an engineer. They also needed production due to us being kids and not having money, so I decided to pick that up as well. By the time I got out of high school, I was on the path that I’m on now.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, not at all; it has not been a smooth road. At 18, I ended up on probation. In that time, I also became a rapper. That kept me out of the streets and taught me how to focus on getting better at what I do. It let me focus on writing as a rapper, as an artist, being a producer and the production of music, and my music ear with the engineering process. I had enough time to teach myself all of these things.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a music artist, audio engineer, musician, and producer. I also make music video edits and cover artwork on the side. I am most known for engineering, and that is how I got my name in the city. I am most proud of; as cheesy as it sounds, I like that what I do helps people. Giving people a space where people can feel comfortable being themselves and able to speak what may be on their minds. People can release this and let it go while still being productive at the same time. The first time I saw someone record something at my studio and they were smiling at what they heard back, this is when I knew this is something that I love to do. I am an individual just like everyone else, and we’re all unique. What sets me apart in my mind is I don’t do everything for myself; when you see me, I want you to see everything around me.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Yes, so the first thing is, do not look for validation on whatever it is you say you do. That’s very important. I tell a lot of people that if you don’t love what you do, and someone says that they don’t like it, you won’t like it. Someone else’s opinion shouldn’t change your mind about what you do. Second thing, sometimes stubbornness can be okay. If you really love what you do, it is okay that you don’t give it up for anything. Always remember what you do it for.
