Daily Inspiration: Meet Anna Hairston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Hairston.

Hi Anna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
The A Game Events & Marketing, LLC, began on 3/8/2020, in part because of my passion and in part, because I wanted to get back to loving what I do! I love making people smile and I love to deliver a service that meets the wants and needs of the customers I serve. I started within this industry 20 years ago, during my undergraduate studies at Wright State University; I used to plan on-campus activities and events.

Not to mention, planning events with family and friends amongst other influences shaped my passion even more. With my experiences, I learned that I was great at planning, executing, and developing a skillset in project management. I also took a passion for designing, creating, and bringing things to life.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Running a business has not been easy, I started this business a few weeks before the COVID pandemic affected us and a little bit before everything was shut down; however, during that time, I was unable to acquire customers.

Although I was not able to move forward in the business, I spent time developing the business, enrolled at The Ohio State University to obtain a Master’s Degree in Business, and an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Marketing, and started my path to become a certified event planner.

I took that roadblock as an opportunity to learn, develop, and plan. I will say there are days when you question what you are doing and you may contemplate throwing in the towel, but when things get tough it is easy to keep going because the reason for starting this business is still aligned with our passion and desires. Other challenges that arise are keeping up with the market, balancing growth and time, and coming up with the right strategies to operate your business, you may pivot a few times. If you have a strong passion for what you are doing, then you can remind yourself of your reasons for starting the business and push through the hard times.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Do not take everything on your own!!! It is overwhelming and it is important to have champions and people you can trust in this industry. You cannot do it alone it takes a team to execute your vision. Work smarter and not harder.

Feedback is a gift and it is important to receive it, not be critical and too hard on yourself and apply it, especially when it improves and enhances your business.

Also, it is okay to pivot and change the direction of your business. It is a fast-paced industry and things change it’s important to be able to embrace change and evolve.
