Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Cordero.
Angela, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started with something simple: balloons. What began as a creative outlet quickly turned into something people started noticing and asking for. I would help decorate small celebrations for family and friends, and little by little, word of mouth started growing.
Over time, I realized I wasn’t just “doing balloons,” I was creating experiences, moments that made people feel special. That’s when I decided to take it seriously and build Bee Sweet Balloon into a real business.
Today, I continue growing step by step in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area, working on events, installations, and designs that bring joy and elevate celebrations. I’m still building, still learning, and still expanding but everything started from that same place: creativity and heart.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most small businesses, especially when you’re starting from scratch, there have been a lot of learning moments along the way.
One of the biggest struggles has been building consistency — both in getting clients and in balancing my business with everyday responsibilities. There are times when work is steady and exciting, and other times when things are quiet and you have to stay motivated without losing momentum.
Another challenge has been doing everything myself — from learning how to price my services, to marketing, to creating content, to managing inquiries and setups. It can feel overwhelming at times, especially in the beginning when you don’t yet have systems or support in place.
I’ve also had to learn to invest in myself and my business without always feeling “ready.” That includes taking risks with materials, branding, and visibility before having everything figured out.
But even with the challenges, each struggle has taught me something important ,how to be more patient, more creative, and more confident in what I’m building. Every step, even the difficult ones, has helped me grow the business into what it is becoming today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in balloon décor and event styling through my business, Bee Sweet Balloon, where I create custom designs for celebrations of all kinds — including birthdays, baby showers, corporate events, grand openings, and special moments that matter to people.
What I’m known for is transforming simple spaces into visually impactful, joyful experiences using balloon installations. I focus on organic balloon garlands, themed setups, and custom designs that are tailored to each client’s vision rather than offering a one-size-fits-all style.
What I’m most proud of is turning something I started very simply into a growing business that people in my community now trust for their special events. Building it from the ground up — while learning everything from design to pricing to marketing, has been a major accomplishment for me.
What sets me apart is the personal attention and intention behind every project. I don’t just “decorate,” I design with purpose, color balance, and emotion so that each setup feels unique and meaningful. I also bring a creative multicultural influence to my work, which helps my designs feel fresh and distinctive.
At the core, my goal is always to create something that makes people stop, smile, and feel like their moment truly matters.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I see risk as something that’s necessary for growth, especially when you’re trying to build something from the ground up. To me, risk doesn’t always mean doing something extreme, it means choosing to move forward even when things aren’t fully secure or perfectly planned.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken has been starting and seriously investing in my balloon business while still managing the stability of everyday responsibilities. It meant putting time, energy, and money into something that didn’t have guaranteed results at the beginning. There were no clear promises that it would work.Only the belief that it could grow if I stayed consistent.
Another risk has been allowing myself to be visible. Putting my work out there, marketing it, and reaching out to clients can feel uncomfortable, especially when you’re building confidence along the way. But I’ve learned that waiting until everything feels perfect usually leads to staying stuck.
I wouldn’t say I take reckless risks, but I do take intentional ones. I try to make thoughtful decisions, even if I’m still figuring things out as I go. For me, the real risk would have been not trying at all and staying in the same place.
Over time, I’ve learned that risk is part of building anything meaningful — and every step I’ve taken, even uncertain ones, has helped me grow both personally and professionally.
