Today we’d like to introduce you to Amie Price.
Hi Amie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My love for photography first started when I was very young. Not only did my mother carry a camera with her everywhere she went, but I shared a birthday with my uncle growing up and he had one of those instant film cameras that printed pictures right after they were taken. I could hardly wrap my little mind around something so amazing! It wasn’t very long before I was given my first camera around the age of 5.
I grew up on a farm in Oklahoma with nearly 300 acres of land. This upbringing gave me such a love for the outdoors, I spent the next several years photographing landscapes and documenting our family vacations (mostly mountainous camping trips). It wasn’t until I was in college that I started focusing more on pictures of other people. This was only a hobby at the time because I got married pretty young and my husband and I moved quite a bit in those first several years of marriage.
Even though we moved a lot, I used every opportunity I had to practice my photography skills. Though I wasn’t doing photography consistently or as a business at the time, I still had enough friends and students in our student ministry to keep me busy and give the practice that I needed to improve.
We made the decision to move to Ohio in 2020. I knew once we got here that God had placed us in Ohio for a long time, and possibly forever. In the Fall of 2022, I decided it was the right time for me to finally jump all in and announce that I was officially taking clients this Fall under the name “Amie Photo Co.” and I was SO overwhelmed by the response… Within 24 hours I had received several inquiries and over the next 8 weeks, I completed nearly 30 photoshoots! It was a crazy busy season but oh so exciting! I cannot wait to see what 2023 holds!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ohh yes, I’ve definitely had my fair share of growing pains! Not having gone to school for photography, I struggled a lot in the beginning with posing my subjects, taking sharp images, figuring out what equipment I needed, and how to use it correctly…just to name a few. All of these things I learned the hard way! I don’t think any business is successful without struggle, I think it’s more about learning from those struggles and not giving up!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer in the Cincinnati/Dayton area. I mainly specialize in family, maternity, couples, and lifestyle photography. I am a highly relational extrovert – I LOVE people. I would say what sets me apart is definitely my personality and ability to make others feel comfortable behind the lens. It would be very unusual for any of my clients to walk away feeling like they had an awkward or stressful shoot. We always have LOTS of fun! And that’s exactly what I enjoy capturing – those genuine beautiful in the moment images that tell a story without having to say a word.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
YES – Don’t be afraid to take risks! It’s okay if you don’t have everything figured out. That’s all part of learning! I have found that the quickest and most effective way for me to learn is by taking that first step, scared or not, and learning from the outcome – whatever that may be. You don’t have to be perfect to be successful and you will never know if you don’t try.
