Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Schroeder
Hi Allison, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been passionate about PR, even before I really knew what it was. Creating and promoting events, writing and understanding how to tell stories has been a passion of mine since childhood. When I was little I would spend my summer vacations filling notebooks with short stories. (I still have them!)
Despite studying communications in college, I didn’t have a clear vision for my career path, but fortunately wound up at a startup agency, where I discovered my passion for media relations and learned some invaluable skills about entrepreneurship that I still carry with me today.
Fast forward several agency and in-house experiences later, I’ve owned my business, Pomme Communications, for 10 years and have loved every minute!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is certainly not for the faint of heart. Combined with the brutal honesty of media relations, there’s a lot of rejection involved. Shortly after starting my business I also had a son, so the added pressure of growing a fledgling business with keeping a small human alive, my time was stretched pretty thin during the early days of my business.
COVID-era communications also required a pivot for communicators, as in-person events were paused for a long time and a lot of the communications strategies that we had in place required significant modifications.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Pomme is an award-winning agency specializing in public relations, marketing activations and strategic partnerships. We’re known for our creative approach to activation development, finding unique and creative approaches to developing client programs that generate buzz. Our industries focus on food, beverage and hospitality as well as health and wellness, though we do serve a handful of other clients in non-profit and professional services.
We are women-owned and women-led and incorporate our core values in all we do: Bold, Creative & Enthusiastic, and we bring that to life through the campaigns we develop and the relationships we maintain with the media and influencer community. Through our work, we aim to bring people together in fun and engaging ways.
We have been recognized for six years in a row for best creative tactic by the Public Relations Society of America, which is a huge testament to our work.
In addition to the work for our clients, we also generate our own creative activations, which includes The Great Bridal Chase, a themed 5k experience and the Ultimate Race Expo, a lifestyle event for runners.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Communications is an ever-changing field, with new platforms and trends popping up all the time. We always advise our clients to be aware of the trends (or more effective yet, lean on us to do the research and provide recommendations for them,) and make a decision that is best for their brand. More than ever, PR is not a one size fits all approach and a brand’s PR strategy should be reflective of that.
