Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Paddock.
Hi Adam, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Throughout school, I was an athlete first. I loved the band and playing the trumpet & baritone, yet I didn’t think that was worthy of being known. In my junior year of high school, my best friends convinced me to try out for show choir on a whim. As reluctant as I was, I did it and ended up having the golden-buzzer moment that I had desperately wanted for so long. From that point, I learned that I had “loads of raw talent,” with emphasis on the raw. The show choir that I joined, Loveland by Request, has been nationally ranked in the top 5 for decades. Miraculously, I landed the only male solo on the set and thus my journey began with singing. I rapidly picked up the guitar and keys and a new fire was sparked. From that point, I auditioned for American Idol and America’s Got Talent and made it through multiple rounds of both, only to be let down before being aired on either. This was my introduction to the grind that is the music industry. Going into college, I took an obsession with learning how to write music like those that I admired and studied how to sing and sound like my idols. Thanks to a brutally honest support team, I worked through all of the bad songs to get to the good ones. Coincidentally, this time was right at the beginning of the nationwide quarantine. Immediately, I moved home and built a DIY music studio in the unfinished part of my dad’s basement out of old carpet tacked to the walls, floors, and ceilings. I spent countless hours on YouTube University learning how to do what I had dreamt of and made countless horrible songs just to understand the system and break into my own workflow. Come the summer of 2020, I had finished my first four songs and configured something of a release plan. These songs took off and I received more love than I had expected, truly. As I put out more music and collaborated, I learned the importance of networking. It was this process that led me to open at Express Live! for Waka Flocka Flame and MAX for 2,000+ people as my first full band performance, ever. Since then, I have only played sold-out venue shows and continued to collaborate with people that I once looked up to as gods. The process revolves around people, hence my ‘People Are the Point’ mantra.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road in this artistic journey is never smooth; it’s windy, bumpy, detour-filled, and hazard-prone… but finding the right people is like finding a straightaway that never ends. From finding my own sound to learning what true branding looks like, the journey has been a long one, but the straightaways are only getting longer.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer-songwriter in the soft pop genre. I am known for making music that is as bombastic as you can make it while maintaining a sense of ‘easy on the ears.’ From power ballads to EDM remixes to indie-pop show-stoppers, my discography has something for everyone. In my live show, you can expect an inevitable crowd surf and dynamic range as we cover everything from Harry Styles to bouncy originals to totally acoustic live-only tracks. We are one of the only live acts in the college demographic that are functioning at a production level on par with those that regular KEMBA Live. Ultimately, though, when you come to an Adam Paddock show, there will be a moment when I explain the importance of ‘People Are the Point.’ I emphasize, in every show, that everyone in the room has one common factor and it’s me! They start there and then I give them a minute or two to make new friends. The following is not one of exclusivity but a place to enjoy themselves and someone new.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
The YouTube channel that inspires me daily is Yes Theory. The mantra of ‘every stranger is a friend you haven’t met yet,’ and ‘Seek discomfort’ remind me to be my best self. The group of 5 guys have been transparent with their struggles and made sure to document every mountaintop moment. I hope to celebrate others as well as they do.
