Daily Inspiration: Meet A.m. The Queen

Today we’d like to introduce you to A.m. The Queen

Hi A.M. The Queen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started doing music very young. My mom purchased a piano for my twin sister and I when we were 4 or 5. I fell in love with trying to learn how to play my favorite melodies; I realized I had an ear for music.

We grew up in church, and started singing in the children’s choir, and I realized my voice was very different from the other children; I remember thinking, ‘I sound like the adults’.

My love for rapping started with my big brother. He taught me how to write my thoughts down, and rhyme. He would freestyle with me, and I just became infatuated with being creative. Overtime, I just kept singing, rapping, and later learned how to produce and perfect my own music.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life in general is not a smooth road. There were many challenges along the way. One of the biggest challenges was finding balance. I own a media company, and I often find it difficult to put as much energy into my own projects as I do for some of my clients. That’s probably been the greatest challenge for me. Pouring back into myself.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer, songwriter, rapper and producer. I believe I specialize in a of them honestly, but I would say I’m known as a singer. I sing and play keys for a church, so many people know me to be a singer and a worshiper honestly.

I’ve had the opportunity to do some great things as an artist, but honestly I’m most proud of the fact that I haven’t given up on my dreams. It’s so easy to walk away when it gets hard, and I’m grateful that I haven’t.

Today, you have to be a lot of things as an Indie Artist. I literally started a media company (AMQ Media) so that I could use those skills on myself. A lot of artist have to pay for things I already own/have the skills and equipment to do. I also think being a church girl sets me apart as well. I have to be in front of a crowd every Sunday. I don’t have to practice having a stage presence, or interacting with the crowd because its something that overtime has just come natural to me. Lastly, self-producing has made it easier to make music. If I hear something in my heart, I can produce it and/or sing it and create. I’ve done my best to remove the barriers that present themselves to a lot of indie artist.

What does success mean to you?
Success is the fruit of consistently executing that which you set out to do. Simple, many people can be successful business owners, and some people can be successful at doing nothing. Choice is up to you.
