Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Grim.
Hi Veronica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve spent my life with a passion for making people laugh and smile and entertaining people. I’ve also always loved literature and poetry and creative writing. Songwriting was a natural evolution for me and I’ve been playing music professionally since college. I’ve had several bands (Switchblade Syndicate, Veronica Grim and the Heavy Hearts, and Veronica Grim) and also play solo acoustic shows.
I write my own songs and do arrangements with my band. I love to play covers that inspire me and give them my own twist. I love to put on a show-you could put on a record at home-if you come to my show I want you to feel electrified and connected.
I’ve played shows at storied venues like the Viper Room in Los Angeles and the Southgate House Revival in Newport, Kentucky…I’ve played dive bars whose names I can’t recall…I’ve played at the campfires of bikers and at weddings…music has taken me so many amazing places and to most of the closest people to me. I don’t think I could live without it!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Living through the hardest mistakes, finding sobriety and not throwing in the towel when things get challenging have presented challenges – but every twist and turn in the road led me to where I am and who I am today. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Creatively speaking : ensuring you continue to challenge yourself to grow as an artist and not let others define you or box you in is key. Don’t box YOURSELF in. Embrace change and experimentation and some amount of risk. Life is all about growth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am singer/songwriter/yoga instructor/raccoon enthusiast/dog and cat paren/friend/wife/nerd and so many more things.
I’m most known for my music and energetic live performances. My music ranges in genre from punk to country to rockabilly to straight up rock and roll to dream pop. I love to play around, grow and explore.
I teach yoga at Sage Yoga Hot in Cincinnati, OH and Newport, KY. Jessica Starr is my yoga mentor and friend and has inspired me so much by creating such an empowering and cool community there.
I would be most proud if I have inspired anyone-especially young women-to pursue their passions, value their health (mental and physical), get sober, create any kind of art and pay forward kindness. I’m most proud when surrounded by my family and friends because it tells me that despite the growth process, I’ve somehow been a good enough human to have such amazing people in MY life!
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been into spooky things, Halloween, monsters, adventure, sci-fi, superhero’s, comic books and all books, animals, being outdoors and being physical. I danced when I was very little. Always loved to bike and rollerblade. I was always making up dance routines and acting out plays and musicals with my family and friends. I love playing games and staying up late binging scary movies or reading. I’m pretty much the same today!
