Today we’d like to introduce you to Tylor Pritchard.
Hi Tylor, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Well, I grew up in a small town – Upper Sandusky, OH. As I was growing up, I had a fairly successful athletic career, and I had a ton of fun playing sports. My chiropractic journey started one day over the summer while working out preparing for my junior year football season. I injured my back. I remember my low back locking up, rendering me unable to really move, unable to run, and unable to train. As an athlete, that took a real shot at my identity and left me unable to do the things that I loved.
Luckily, we had a family friend that was a chiropractor. I vividly remember Dr. Luke Smith in Upper Sandusky talking with me, going through his exam, and taking X-rays. After that, he performed an adjustment on my low back. After that first visit, I felt about 75% better. After my 3rd or 4th visit with him, I was back to my normal 16-year-old self. It was after this that I decided that I had to provide this service for other people. I decided at age 16 that I wanted to be a chiropractor.
After high school, I decided to hang up the cleats (until its time to play flag football) and attend The Ohio State University to pursue a pre-med Biology degree. It was there that I discovered my passion for optimizing human performance. I have carried that passion with me to the present day. After graduating from Ohio State in 2018, I decided to pack my bags and move to Davenport, IA. Davenport is home to the prestigious Palmer College of Chiropractic.
While at Palmer, I worked into many leadership positions. I was the president of my graduating class, two student clubs, and interned for some of the most accomplished chiropractors in the country. I also took a special interest in sports and occupational injuries because I wanted to help prevent many of the unnecessary surgeries that athletes and workers are often subjected.
Upon graduating from Palmer College, I took a job as an associate in a very high-functioning office in Davenport, IA. I worked hard and honed my clinical skills in that position. After about a year of working there, it was time to figure out the next chapter of my life. For me, this was opening my own practice in the city that I fell in love with during my undergraduate years, Columbus.
After about 5 months of planning every facet of what is now my practice, Potent Chiropractic, I moved back to Ohio to get the process started. It took daily focus, and we worked through many obstacles, but we were finally able to get the doors open on December 18, 2022. Since then, we’ve been very fortunate to serve so many people and get involved in the community of New Albany. It has been such a rewarding experience, and we are so excited to continue growing and serving more people in this great community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been a rocky road to this point. Some of the obstacles included securing financing, finding the right location, and hiring the wrong people to build out the practice.
Without a lot of starting capital, I really think that we got the practice open with a lot of hard work and pure grit. I basically did everything that I possibly could to get started. It has been a learning experience, and I truly believe “if there is a will, there is a way.”
Finding space in New Albany was incredibly difficult. Because of continuous growth of this area, there has been a massive influx of industry and population. This is great for business, but it also led to a lot of competition for spaces. After touring about 30 different spots and continual negotiations, we finally found our location on N Hamilton Rd, and we absolutely love it. We are in a perfect position to grow alongside the rest of the community.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are specializing in sports and occupational injuries. I think that our results are what differentiate us from the rest of the medical industry. I still think it is amazing how we can help our people display a greater level of health, 100% naturally. There are no special treatments in our office. We just leverage the power of the human nervous system, align the structural system so it can function optimally, and watch as our patients heal.
I am also very proud of our systems and procedures. Everything is incredibly efficient, giving us the opportunity to enhance the lives of a lot of people in our community without all the “fluff” of a typical doctor’s office. Also, all of our financial arrangements are made in advance, so there is never any guessing by our patients what will be covered by their insurance, how much they will have to pay, etc. I value honesty and transparency in our process, and our patients love it.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think love would have to be the greatest quality that is most important to my success. – love for helping others, love for what I do, love for our community, love for our patients, and love for vibrant health. I am so excited to come into the office every day; I don’t think I would even consider it work.
