Conversations with Ben Malson of Telehope

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Malson. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Telehope Ben Malson

Telehope began in the fall of 2016 after realizing how powerful the feeling of hope can be. A few friends got together and starting writing music with a goal of positively impacting the world. In that first year, we wrote an album, set some goals of selling out our first hometown show and hitting a million streams on a song. We’ve accomplished a lot since then, including going on several tours, supporting artists like COIN, Max Frost, Walk off the Earth, The Wildlife, and Harbour, many shows at colleges, gaining millions of streams online, and releasing 3 albums. We feel like we’re only at the beginning. Telehope is headed up by Ben Malson (vocals and the band’s studio/live production), Adolph Goetz (Guitar), and James Malson (Drums and saxophone).

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We believe that something worth doing is never “easy.” We’ve had several member changes over the years, many popped tires on tour, sickness on tours, a pandemic we had to persevere through. We’re lucky that all 3 of us are resilient guys. We always remind ourselves of why we do this-the fans-and that pushes us to keep going.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Telehope is a 3-piece Indie-Rock band from Cincinnati, OH. We make catchy songs with a positive message. We’re always writing about specific stories that’ve impacted us from fans or friends, and the pain of this world inspires us to offer some hope through our music.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
We love the podcast, “and the writer is”! It’s inspiring to hear other artists’ journeys and knowing that even the superstars are human and have to battle difficult times as well. Our go-to podcast to entertain us on long drives on tour has been “Crime Junkie.” We’re always reading a music business book, a finance book, or some other educational piece of media.
