Conversations with Sean Freeman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Freeman

Hi Sean, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey has been filled with unexpected turns and pivotal moments that have shaped who I am today. After high school, I earned a full football scholarship to Tiffin University, but I eventually transferred to Alabama State University to play at a higher level, experience the rich culture of an HBCU, and be closer to my then-girlfriend, now wife. Unfortunately, the summer I transferred, I tore my ACL, forcing me to shift my focus away from football. While it was a difficult time, that injury led me to immerse myself in campus life, becoming a leader through various organizations, and channeling my drive into other forms of growth.

After graduating, I moved to Atlanta with a clear vision for my future. I stayed with a close friend and his mom, and began interning at God is Dope, a brand still in its early stages. Through hard work and dedication, I rose to the role of tour manager, playing a part in the brand’s growth during its incubation period. This experience in entrepreneurship and branding was invaluable, and it set the foundation for much of my future endeavors.

I also gained valuable experience in the corporate world, further developing my project management skills. But eventually, family became my top priority, and I moved back to Ohio to build a life with my wife, just six months before the pandemic hit. Our son was born two weeks after the pandemic was officially announced, a life-changing moment that further solidified my commitment to creating a stable and meaningful future for my family.

Today, I’ve built a career centered around project management, using the skills and experiences I’ve gathered over the years to drive success in various fields. Whether managing large-scale projects or collaborating with small businesses through consulting, I focus on simplifying processes, fostering innovation, and creating sustainable growth. My journey has taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the power of strong networks. I remain committed to using my background and expertise to make a lasting impact—whether in business, community development, or personal growth.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges I faced was having to restart my career when I moved back to Ohio. I took on jobs that didn’t align with my previous experience or expertise, and there was even a time when I worked two jobs just to make ends meet. All of this was happening while my first son was on the way, and I was also planning a major entrepreneur summit in partnership with the City of Trotwood, my hometown. Unfortunately, that event—intended to showcase my proof of concept and establish a network economy in Dayton—was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pivot came when I decided to invest in myself and pursue an MBA with a focus on Management, Innovation, and Change at the Raj Soin School. This was a turning point where I deepened my knowledge and skills, which allowed me to evolve into a stronger project manager. The experience reinforced the importance of adaptability and continuous growth, both of which have been crucial in overcoming challenges and pushing my career forward.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been in the field of project management for a little over a decade. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep understanding of navigating constant change, managing complex projects, and meeting hard deadlines. One of the key lessons I’ve learned is the importance of adaptability—whether it’s integrating new technologies, aligning diverse teams, or ensuring that projects meet both timelines and high-quality standards.

In my current role, I focus on helping organizations streamline processes, leverage innovation, and simplify their operations to drive efficiency. I also have a passion for working with small businesses, helping them scale by identifying untapped opportunities and developing strategies that drive sustainable growth.

What excites me the most is seeing the tangible impact of these efforts—whether it’s a project completed on time and under budget, or a small business that thrives because of the tools and strategies we’ve implemented together.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality I value most in my success is persistence. Often, my ideas are met with skepticism—not out of malice, but because my vision is sometimes difficult for others to grasp. Even those closest to me may offer alternative suggestions or question my direction. While I always appreciate their input, staying true to my plan and pushing forward has allowed me to turn those ideas into proof of concept. In the end, that persistence has been the key to bringing my vision to life.

Much like the lyrics of Ambitious by Jay-Z, the moments when people doubted me or questioned my path only fueled my motivation. Their skepticism became the very thing that pushed me to succeed and prove that my vision was not just valid but valuable.
