Hi Sakshi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey has been a blend of ambition, adaptability, and a deep commitment to giving back. Coming from a middle-class family in India, I was the first in my family to leave the country to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Studying at Miami University was a transformative experience—one that I was able to afford through scholarships, work opportunities, and the incredible support of the university.
After graduating debt-free in 2023 with a degree in computer science, I stepped into the professional world as a software developer. While excelling in my role, I’ve also remained actively involved in mentorship, university engagement, and professional organizations. From speaking at conferences to mentoring students and leading recruitment efforts, I’ve always believed in sharing my experiences to uplift others.
Beyond my career, I’ve also taken a deep interest in financial literacy and personal growth. I launched the “Sakshi’s Two Cents” series on Instagram (@shahijournal) to demystify finance for young professionals, drawing from my own experiences of saving, investing, and building financial independence. My goal is to continue inspiring others by making complex topics more approachable and empowering people to take control of their futures.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I believe challenges shape resilience and growth. One of the biggest hurdles I faced was leaving my home country to pursue higher education in the U.S. Being the first in my family to take that step came with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Financial constraints were a constant concern, and I had to navigate scholarships, part-time jobs, and budgeting carefully to make it work.
On top of that, I started my freshman year of college just months before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Suddenly, I was thousands of miles away from home, navigating lockdowns, online classes, and isolation without the comfort of family nearby. The uncertainty of travel restrictions made it even harder, knowing that I couldn’t visit home even if I wanted to. That experience tested my resilience in ways I never expected—it forced me to build a support system from scratch, find ways to stay motivated, and adapt to constant change.
Beyond finances and the pandemic, adapting to a new culture, education system, and professional environment was a challenge. As an international student, breaking into the tech industry wasn’t easy. I had to be proactive in networking, finding mentors, and proving my capabilities in competitive spaces. Rejections were part of the process, but each one pushed me to refine my approach and keep going.
Even after securing a full-time role, I faced the challenge of balancing work, personal growth, and my passion for mentorship. Juggling multiple commitments—whether it was recruiting efforts, professional organizations, or my financial literacy series—meant learning to prioritize and manage time effectively.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Software Developer at Midmark Corporation which is headquartered in Versailles, Ohio. I started there as an intern, joined full time after graduation, and recently got promoted. At Midmark, I work on creating innovative solutions to improve patient care lifecycle. My role allows me to work at the intersection of technology and patient care, developing software that enhances medical workflows and improves healthcare experiences. But beyond coding, I enjoy collaborating with teams, solving complex problems, and constantly learning new technologies.
One of the key strengths that sets me apart is my ability to bridge the gap between technical and business teams through effective communication. As a software developer, I don’t just focus on writing code—I ensure that complex technical concepts are translated into clear, actionable insights for business stakeholders. This ability to communicate across different functions helps drive alignment, streamline decision-making, and create solutions that truly meet user needs. Additionally, being the youngest on my team and having an international background allows me to bring a fresh, global perspective to problem-solving. I approach challenges with adaptability, creativity, and an understanding of diverse viewpoints, which helps in fostering innovation and collaboration. My unique blend of technical expertise, strong communication, and cross-cultural awareness enables me to contribute in ways that go beyond just development, making me a valuable bridge between technology and business strategy.
Any big plans?
In the near future, I’m excited to step into more responsibilities at work, especially with my recent promotion. I’m looking forward to taking on more complex and technical projects that will not only challenge me but also help improve the lives of millions of patients across the world. Being part of a family-owned company based in Ohio, I’m eager to contribute to its growth and drive meaningful change within my team and the organization.
As a woman in STEM, I’m also passionate about advocating for diversity and encouraging more women to pursue careers in technology. I believe in the power of representation and mentorship, and I want to continue creating opportunities for others to break into the field. Whether it’s through sharing my experiences or being an active part of initiatives that support women in STEM, I aim to make an impact that extends beyond my own career.
On a personal level, I’m focused on expanding my social media reach and continuing to be a relatable and positive presence on the internet. In just three months, my content has reached over 800+ people, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see it resonate with others. I’m passionate about helping people overcome obstacles, and I want to show that financial freedom, personal growth, and giving back are achievable goals—even when things seem impossible. Looking ahead, I hope to continue growing this platform to inspire and provide hope to even more people who may be struggling or feeling stuck.
Both professionally and personally, I’m excited for the opportunity to take on new challenges, make an impact, and continue growing in ways that align with my values.
