Conversations with Rose Merritt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Merritt.

Rose Merritt

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I knew I wanted to be a Photographer since I was 7 years old and my parents bought me my first 35mm camera. I always had a camera in my hands and it was my dream career. I even took a photography class in High School. In 2012, my dreams came true as my husband told me to pursue my dream and quit my 9 to 5. I started my business by doing small sessions for family, friends, and eventually clients. I constantly watched webinars and researched different techniques or tutorials on how to create certain images. Then I would practice day in and day out until I got it. After some time, I had the opportunity to photograph my first wedding. I absolutely loved being able to capture such a beautiful moment in a couples lives and continued to do weddings. I focused on how to create genuine, fun, romantic moments on a wedding day and I continue to do so.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some struggles along the way that I faced was figuring out how to get my name and my work out there in front of people when I first started. I also had to figure out my style and vibe so I would be 100% genuinely me and not just falling into what’s the current trend.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a full time Photographer. I specialize mostly in Weddings, Engagement & Boudoir Photography, although I still photograph a variety of other session types including seniors, maternity & families. I would have to say that I’m most proud of the fact that I have a variety of my photos published in 24 magazines, both internationally and locally, 5 of which I made the cover of! I think something that sets me apart from others is that I’m more than just a photographer. At a couples wedding, I will help in any way I can whether its bustling the brides gown, getting the rings to the best man, or just being the brides calming voice, I’m there for my couples on their wedding day as a friendly helping hand and not just a vendor.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the diversity of people that we have. I have met so many wonderful and different people from many walks of life, different professions, and backgrounds. I also love how many beautiful parks and locations we have. It gives me so many wonderful options for my clients photos! If I had to pick something I like least about our city, it would be the lack of waterfalls we have. I’m a sucker for a good waterfall.
