Conversations with Ron Bell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Bell.

Ron Bell

Hi Ron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We actually started R&D Recreation to do petting zoos on site and mobily and then thought of adding a couple of bounce houses to the plan because all kids love bounce houses, especially our grandkids. Bob, at Business of Bounce here locally, offered to let us work with him because we were a great customer, but I’m not a partner kinda of guy. So we worked out a deal and bought him out. It was a nightmare at first, switching everything over etc., but finally April 1, 2024 we were the owners and jumped straight in and purchased new units, added concession machines, updated to a newer, larger trailer etc. We totally ran with our dream! We started offering specials and each birthday child got a gift bag. If siblings were present during delivery, they got to choose a gift from our special gift box. It has been a crazy but huge hit with parents and kids.
We now sponsor multiple events for kids and donate a crazy amount of money and rentals (per our accountant) but it’s always about the kids for us. We’ve now added tables and chairs to the line up and tents and much more in 2026.
We just returned from the IAAPA Expo in Florida where we purchased twelve more rental units from small to crazy large and we are no where near done. We are dedicated and only going up from here.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our main struggles are obtaining insurances, getting units inspected, and of course competition.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Diane and I have worked customer service our whole lives. I myself (Ron) have worked at Skinner Diesel Service for the last 39 years and have served as general manager the last 26 years.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I was working at 12 years old at our family grocery store where customers were always right and customer service was 💯 the top priority. That’s something I continue to live by.
