Conversations with Pamela Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Brown.

Hi Pamela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I was born in Costa Rica, but I have lived in Utah, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, France, and now again back to United States. That is why the name of my photography company is called Nomadic Heart Photography.

As a kid, my guilty pleasure was helping myself to my parent’s camera. The excitement of a cloudless day and chasing the perfect shot. Striving to be better in technique and understanding, I made photography my study in college.

Also, I have been studying different workshops in different countries with my favorite photographers to learn more about them in order to be a better photographer.

As a professional photographer, weddings are my specialty and are personally my favorite shoots. Weddings have so much energy and so many beautiful moments. There are countless happy moments and some nostalgic ones, but all that is part of an amazing day that can be remembered for ever and ever.

Meeting and learning about the couples is always such an amazing experience. I enjoy getting to know their likes, their passions, their hobbies, and other aspects of their lives. I want to connect and get to know their story. I also feel it is important for my clients to know me and my work as well. I strive to make my shoots extremely natural, relaxing, and most importantly, fun!

Another passion of mine emerges in my photography wedding packages, which are prepared based off some of my favorite novels, all of them have been named after my favorite couples from my favorite books.

Below is a small bit of information that let you see a bit of insight about who I am:

Favorite film: 1000 Times good night

Favorite music: Yann Tiersen

My weakness: my dogs

Favorite book: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is been a long learning path.

The past two years with the pandemic a lot of weddings were cancelled and many plans changed; it was important to learn to adapt and to reinvent ourselves, I think life is like that, constant changes that take us to new places or situations we never imagined.

For example, originally, I was going to study architecture, and it was during a 2-year volunteer program in Nicaragua that I decided that I wanted to study photography every day I use to carry my camera everywhere and photographed everything I saw, new people I met, how I lived day by day.

So, when I returned home, I started my research to find universities where I could learn more about art, light, composition, and the background of images.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My study in photography is been a long road and a lot of work and learning, I studied at two universities, and I have attended photography workshops in Peru, Mexico, Spain, and Germany, where I have been able to learn more about weddings.

I knew that I wanted to do weddings from the moment a wedding photographer came to give us an exposition. I loved seeing the energy and the vibe lived in every wedding and knowing that those memories are part of history. From that day on, I started directing my path to wedding photography.

Something that is difficult is to make people feel comfortable with you while you are photographing them, and I have achieved that.

Weddings are filled with happiness, stress, and sadness, and it is critical that the photographer knows how to handle it.

Always be ready to photograph everything and anticipate what is going to happen, so you don’t miss an important moment.

I feel proud because, despite everything that has happened in two years, I continue to strive to do what I like. I am a perfectionist, and I am my worst critic, so I always try to learn and be my best version

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite memory as a child is always being with my family. We always went everywhere together. My favorite memory of a wedding was when I was 8 years old; everything was incredible. It was a long trip, and the place was so beautiful, and I remember that they had the biggest cake I had ever seen in my life, with fountains and little dolls of the bride, the groom, and the wedding party. I loved seeing everyone so happy, dancing and enjoying themselves.

When they threw the bouquet, I grabbed it and kept it as a treasure
