Today we’d like to introduce you to Mycah Wells
Hi Mycah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always wanted to be a Chef! I grew up watching all of the women in my family cook. From my mother to my grandmothers and even my father was always in the kitchen. I would use a single burner (without my mom’s permission of course) melting chocolate and covering everything, trying different seasonings and imitating Emeril Lagasse along with other Food Network stars. I went on to attend Culinary Arts Vocational at Beachwood High School during my junior and senior year. Then went on to graduate from Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte,NC with a bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts & Food Service Management. After college I managed a French bakery growing a love for coffee and pastries. I’ve been in every position you could imagine in a restaurant. Ive put in the work from the Master’s Golf Tournament to a local diner.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a woman in the back of the house is never smooth. You enter into a male dominated field with little respect and constant pressure. You’re labeled too hard to work with if you defend yourself. Add on being black and plus size there’s definitely bumps. Through every test I grew closer to purpose and learned to prune the environments I worked in. Open to learning and always true to myself.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I currently serve as the Director of Hospitality at The Word Church while simultaneously running my own catering & personal chef services through Rich Artistry. I specialize in anything from simple in home meals to catering wedding receptions or the occasional bake sale. I’m proud of the work I put out, the events I organize and balancing all of the things with a smile on my face. My tedious organization and heart for happiness contribute to creating the one of one aura I possess. I love hearing feedback about my food how it made people feel and how they can’t stop thinking about a certain meal. It really makes my heart smile.
What matters most to you?
Currently Rest, Community & Relationships mean the most to me. I’m in a season of growth in so many ways. I have to trust the process knowing God will handle everything . My desires are partnered with His will. I will no loose myself to burnout potentially abandoning the community I’ve built and the people that reciprocate the love I give.
