Conversations with Monica Hally

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Hally.

Monica Hally, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I lived in Ohio back in the 80’s, two of my daughters were born in Ohio and my third born in California. I always loved it there and when my daughters decided to move here as adults I thought I’d open a restaurant for them to run so they’d have jobs and not have to worry about putting their kids in daycare (I have 5 grandkids).

I worked and lived in CA at the time we opened in Aug 2019 and eventually moved back permanently in March 2021. My goal was to introduce Cali style Mexican takeout so when COVID hit, no problem, it was perfect for our goal in introducing restaurant quality Mexican takeout!

All three of my daughters, Hilaree, 34, Emily 32 and Casey 30 work and run the restaurant with me, as well as my son in laws and now my grandson, 12 and granddaughter, 7. It’s truly a family business just like our family recipes.

We first opened in Parma, Ohio and then moved to Kent where we are now. It’s been a wonderful journey and experience seeing how I’ve never owned a business before. It’s been successful due to the dedication of my family.

People LOVE the fresh flavors and those from Cali are soooo excited when they find us, they say “we miss this kind of food” fresh, bold and flavorful is our recipe for success!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not knowing where to start with a brand new business and not having a general contractor, I had to figure it out step by step and thankfully the people in Ohio are so gracious I had a lot of help from the contractor that installed my Fire Suppression System Hood, he was a God send .

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was the Operations Manager for an Accounting Firm, that allowed me to maintain the Financials for my new business.
We are known for our original recipes and authenticity, we’d love to Franchise and see Mamacita’s in more cities!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
It wasn’t luck, it was God!
I prayed for direction and doors to open in order for me to take on this venture I self funded and by the grace of God they did!
