Today we’d like to introduce you to Louis Key.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started making music back in March of 2020 due to the state of the world at the time, but I’ve always been around music for as long as I can remember. As a child I would participate in school plays and acts, taking lead acting roles and singing positions. I would also participate in my church child choir from time to time when I was a bit younger. I slowly started to dabble into the piano (unfortunately I’ve lost the skill over time) as well as brass instruments such as the trumpet, but later on gave it up. I have always written lyrics and poetry though, for as long I can remember. But I didn’t record lyrics on an actual beat until I was 19 and out of college. Ever since then, I’ve been working on my craft; beat-making, performing, and just trying to develop as an overall artist and person.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing in life will ever be “smooth” in my opinion. Ever. Saying that though, I haven’t run into any major issues or problems I haven’t seen before. I have run into my fair share of artists though who claim they want to work but fall short. Promoters who had nothing in mind but self-gain. I’ve had a couple of engineers in the past who made it very hard to create or even work together because of their planned intentions for the art. I expect to run into many more hiccups and problems honestly, but that’s what comes with this “game.” I just know I’ll be ready for most of it. If I’m not already.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I go by the name Louis Key (a.k.a Louie) and I am an artist from Dayton, Ohio. I’m a musician, videographer and graphic designer. I have designed most of my cover art for my music, a good portion of my beats, and almost all of my music videos as well. I am most proud of my style and uniqueness. I feel over the past year and a half I have found myself more as a person and not just an artist. I feel I’ve found my “calling” or my “purpose” through my music and art, and honestly, I’m just ready to spread my light.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being humble, daring, creative, independent, supportive, ‘quick on your feet’, and willing to taking any and all advice will be most important to my success and has been so far.
