Today we’d like to introduce you to LOGVN.
LOGVN, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My love of hip-hop started at a young age of maybe around 8 years old when I first discovered Eminem. Even at a young age, I knew that music was distinctly different from any I heard before. Growing up with more of an alternative rock music influence from my older brother, that’s what I was familiar with. I’ve never heard music as a form of emotional poetry like that before then. From then on, music just opened up to me with so many new possibilities. I started writing poetry myself by the end of middle school, then started to write songs as a freshman in high school. I studied so many different artists, poets, producers, etc. to try to learn how to create this art that I fell in love with. I do everything on my own as much as I can do. I write, record, perform, engineer, marketing/promotion, music videos, graphic design for my artwork, and occasionally produce. Maybe more that I can’t think of at the moment haha. I take pride in that! I’ve spent many years learning, researching, growing… It’s nice to see it start paying off. Now in my life, I’m the biggest in my music career than I’ve ever been. I actually just found out I’m among the top 10,000 biggest “generic” artists in the world, (the generic part makes sense since I make a type of hip-hop that isn’t mainstream, either way, I’ll still take it haha). Now I’m fortunate enough to say I’m at a great point in my early career. I have built great relationships with some big artists in the industry and am even collaborating with a few of them for future releases, which I can only expect will skyrocket my career. I’m very excited for 2022!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Most of my struggles happened a few years ago while I was in high school. Around this time, other kids in my school were trying to become rappers as well. They were all bullied because of it, it made me scared to release anything since I was already getting bullied a bunch then anyways. The first-ever “song” I wrote was actually about one of my high school bullies, I never released it but I distinctly remember everything about that moment from when I started/finished writing it, to calling my best friend at the time from my pantry (so no one in my house could hear me rapping) and rapping it to him to see what he thought of it. He said it wasn’t bad and that’s honestly all I needed to hear to get the confidence to at least attempt it. Once I released some tracks, I got a lot of hate. I never tried to act tough, cool, or whatever anyone may have thought just because I wanted to “be a rapper”. People just didn’t like the fact that others were trying to do something different than them, I guess. I got into fights, nonstop cyberbullied every day that ranged anywhere from making fun of how I look/sound to death threats and sending me my address, etc. There were even Facebook pages made just to hate on me and others who wanted to make music, hurt even more seeing friends of mine following the pages. Ultimately though this made me thick-skinned and I built myself up more than they tore me down, it actually gave me the fire I needed to get to where I’m at today. I just wanted to prove everyone wrong. Now I make music for the kids out there who were/are like me. I try to make relatable music so people can put themselves in my shoes and vice versa. I remember how comforted it made me feel to be going through an extremely rough time and then just putting on music from an artist who I felt truly understood how I feel. I felt heard, understood, cared for. I just want to be able to give that to others just like that in the world. A lot of people out there love emotional, genuine hip-hop, I’m just glad that to some people I can be that person I set out to be.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well, I do a little bit of everything that I need. I rap, write, record, produce, engineer, graphic design, film videos, etc. I record other artists and work on their tracks as well. Right now, in regards to both rapping and engineering, I’m working with talented artists such as CHVSE, Mark Battles, and Futuristic, just to name a few, though I have much more in store for 2022. I suppose right now that would be what I’m most proud of. What sets me apart from others is that I’m authentic, I’m a perfectionist, the reason I make music is bigger than just me and I think people see that and respond to it.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The music industry is always changing, especially when we are talking about trends and their impact on it. I think over the next 5-10 years, songs will gradually get shorter due to shorter attention spans from platforms like TikTok for example. Shorter songs also mean more of a chance they’ll get played more often so there’s a win for the artist there as well. In recent years with the pandemic, I think the music industry will find a way to appease more people that want to stay home more often (not going to shows, meet and greets, etc.) or at least find a way to provide that option. I still think rap and pop will be the most listened to genres but I’m curious how the mainstream songs will sound a decade from now.
