Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Butler.
Hi Katherine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Four years ago, I asked my husband, Chris, the fateful question that started it all: If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go? He said that his dream was to go on a safari in Africa. Ever since that trip, we’ve been addicted to traveling together. We’re big fans of eating our way through a destination, finding hidden gems, and laughing at our mishaps along the way.
Now, we share our adventures, tips for traveling, travel hacks, and amazing itineraries for your own romantic getaway on both the World Wide Honeymoon blog and podcast!
We’re here to show you that traveling as a couple isn’t picture-perfect, but it is one of the most rewarding experiences to have together. Most importantly, the honeymoon doesn’t have to end!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The first couple of years, I had zero clue how to create a travel blog with an actual following. I used to be a CPA working in public accounting prior to this, so other than budgeting and doing my bookkeeping, I was lost. Thankfully, over the years I’ve joined many travel blogger Facebook groups, have met many other travel bloggers at conferences, and have learned so much! I have learned about SEO to help get my blog posts to rank, the importance of social media, and how to build a brand.
Of course, 2020 and part of 2021 have certainly been a struggle as I run a travel blog and travel wasn’t exactly happening. I did learn to pivot, focusing more content on staycations and USA travel which helped a lot!
I’m hoping as time goes on that the blog will grow further as travel reopens around the world!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I run a couple’s travel blog and podcast called World Wide Honeymoon. I write detailed itineraries, packing lists, and other guides to help couples plan the perfect romantic getaway.
I also share fun stories and tips on the podcast that I co-host with my husband, Chris.
Aside from World Wide Honeymoon, I recently started a new blog all about France travel called France Voyager.
I’m most proud of everything that I’ve learned to get to this point. Putting yourself out there and sharing stories and helpful information can be scary, but sometimes all you need to do is start and learn as you go.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The most helpful things I’ve found for my work are blogging Facebook groups. My favorite is Make Traffic Happen, and they also sell books about SEO to learn about ranking on Google.
Also, conferences are key. They are a great way to meet other bloggers and network! I’ve learned so much from conferences and from the people I’ve met. TravelCon and the Women in Travel Summit are great conferences to go to.
