Conversations with Kali Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kali Jones.

Hi Kali, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My interest in makeup and beauty started at a very young age. I would help my mom get dolled up for nights out with friends, paint my nails on a daily basis, and loved visiting the department store makeup counters. I have always had a love for art, drawing, and painting; I spent recesses, lunches, and study halls in the art room at school. While in college at The Ohio State University, my artistry skills began to blossom, and my passion for makeup and the beauty industry were born. I spent many years as a freelance makeup artist and professional makeup artist for brands like Benefits Cosmetics, Too Faced Cosmetics, Tarte, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Clinique, Estée Lauder, Dior, Lancôme, and Chanel.

I then went on to become a Product Developer for Bath and Body Works, developing top-selling formulas and fragrances.

I began doing bridal makeup, special event makeup, and teaching friends makeup tips and tricks on the side. Client referrals and social media helped grow my business to what it is today, allowing me to provide makeup services for hundreds of women. I love helping brides feel and look their absolutely best for one of the most important and memorable days of their lives and helping women feel confident applying makeup on a daily basis.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For me, makeup application, product knowledge, and product development have always come naturally. I have a deep passion and natural talent for what I do. I am so fortunate to have been trained by some of the best makeup artists and product knowledge specialist early on in my career. I am also so grateful to have been trained by some of the best, well-seasoned product developers in the industry. They allowed my natural creativity to shine and pushed my skills to the limits. Lastly, I have the most supportive, loving husband. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. All of these people have made be into the artist, expert, developer, and woman that I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a bridal makeup artist, special event makeup artist, and educator. I have the ability to help a client feel and look like the absolutely best version of themself. I help women feel confident in their ability to apply makeup on a daily basis. I am a Superior Colorist. Receiving a nearly perfect score on the Farnsworth-Munsell, I can see all colors perfectly. This is especially important when understand skin tones, undertones, color correction, and what will look best on any client.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see my business continuing to grow and thrive. I plan to continue my education, learning new skills and techniques. Education courses on makeup techniques, color education, product education, and skincare education are in the works!
