Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Lincicome.
Hi Jordan , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Colorado, I have 2 older siblings who played a key role in my up bringing. We lived in a small town outside of aspen which made for a lot of hardship for my family and I, however I was blessed with a lot of freedom from a young age. Self expression and creativity have always been my biggest outlet through adversity. From fashion, to art, to social media creation and music, I would do just about anything to show the world how I was feeling. This lead me to join cosmetology school. I wanted to help others express themselves the same way I learned to do for myself. Having the freedom to do so was so crucial to my future because it taught me that I have the power to make choices for myself and pick the path I want to lead. As I got older and saw family member struggle with physical and mental health issues, it made it all the more important that I learn to work hard and get off the beaten path I had seen from such a young age. This is what lead me to Cincinnati, a growing city that I can grow with. Art covering the streets, the grass is actually greener on this side. I came to Cincinnati looking to expand my sales skills and meet like minded individuals. I’ve been here for just about 2 months and it’s changed my life in such a short time that I can’t wait to see the long term picture!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My family grew up in poverty, we had lived in homes with little to no plumbing, as I got older this lead my parents to not be around very much. They were very private people as they were learning about an up and coming trade that had a bad reputation.
Eventually we had moved to a more family friendly area and it had felt like we got our life back and had a chance for something normal. Unfortunately when I was 14, my parents had gotten a divorce and both ended up moving out of the house leaving my siblings and I to fend for ourselves at a time when we didn’t have the resources to do so. While this experience taught me so much it got the best of my sister. She ended up having a psychological breakdown, which was probably inevitable, however it was just another layer to the lord of the flies life my brother and I were living in. All of these conflicts have lead me to hyper independence. I share these stories to show that we have the power to change and take positive action in our lives despite the odds.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I come from a cosmetology background. As a kid I would wear the most comfy-loo-who hairstyles I could do. To find a job doing what helped me feel like me what such an honor. During my 5 years as a stylist I found a huge passion for sales. I’ve bounced around from a few different types of sales ever since, gaining knowledge and experience in order to find my niche. I’ve found that cosmetology was my passion but took time away from my life, while sales gives me the foundation needed to not only afford my passions in life, but the flexibility to do so! I want to be an artist, I love to draw and paint as well as create music and build my social media persona. I look at my current work standing as a stepping stone to turn that dream into a reality!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
People are always surprised to know where I’ve come from, when you look at me, I’m young and bright eyed, which is true. But when I expand on the different experiences I’ve faced in my 24 years on earth, it always leaves people a bit shocked. I’m a big believer in not shying away from what has made us who we are, regardless of how painful. By sharing these stories it keeps our perspectives open and allows us to feel connected to one another in a world where connection is becoming more and more surface level.
