Conversations with Hummingbird Salon & Spa Erin & Taylor Inscho

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hummingbird Salon & Spa Erin & Taylor Inscho.

Hi Hummingbird Salon & Spa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I went to cosmetology school at 26, working as a receptionist and starting over more than once. I struggled with money, relied on a jobs program in the start of school just to afford gas, worked part-time, paid bills, and even moved back in with my mom when things got hard. I dropped out twice. The third time, as a single mother, I finished—despite being told by someone overseeing the Ohio State School of Cosmetology program that I probably wouldn’t make much of myself.

I started at the front desk of a salon, worked my way into management, and eventually went out on my own. In 2005, my second child was born with a heart defect. Between hospital stays, two open-heart surgeries, and parenting, I built a clientele the only way I knew how—one day at a time.

Owning a salon was always the dream, even when it felt out of reach. I started small. My niece joined me early on and has been by my side for 11 years. In 2020, I moved into my current location, added spray tanning, and my oldest daughter -Taylor runs The Bronzed Goddess—serving Delaware for nearly five years. She is on maternity leave with her second child from Barber School.

In 2024, I expanded again to add Japanese Head Spa services. It came with expensive setbacks and hard lessons, including learning that kindness still requires boundaries.

Life brought deep personal loss in 2020 that changed me forever. Healing hasn’t been linear—but growth has been intentional.

Today, my salon is two spaces under one roof: Beauty on one side, Wellness on the other. Every part of it was built through resilience, community, and not giving up—especially when it would’ve been easier to walk away.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting to where I am came with constant financial strain—paying a car payment while only working part-time, trying to build a clientele as a single mom, covering bills without consistent child support, and doing whatever it took to stay afloat. At the same time, I was in and out of Children’s Hospital with my second daughter because of her heart defect and recurring illnesses. There were stretches when she couldn’t attend school, and I had to stay home—choosing motherhood while still trying to keep a business alive.

During COVID, I experienced the loss of my husband. After we separated, he attempted suicide and passed away days later. It happened in a season already filled with fear, isolation, and uncertainty. I didn’t have the space or privilege to stop and fully process a loss of that magnitude—life, parenting, and business still required me to keep moving forward, even when I was exhausted and grieving.

More recently, I’ve faced setbacks that tested me in new ways—trusting someone to do licensed, permitted work, only to find out it wasn’t done correctly and having to pay to fix it all. I’ve also learned difficult lessons about renting space to others: that energy matters, alignment matters, and kindness must come with boundaries. When you share space, you share more than walls—you share vision, values, and intention.

It’s been all-encompassing. Hard. Humbling. And still, I’m here—continuing to build with resilience, integrity, and care.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I own Hummingbird Salon & Spa in Delaware, Ohio, formerly Cre8ive Trendz Hair Boutique. After owning a salon for over 11 years, I chose to rebrand and expand when I turned 50 in 2024. That shift was intentional—I wanted the space to feel more elevated and to fully reflect my belief that beauty and wellness belong together.

I’m deeply grateful to be well known and trusted in Delaware as a hairstylist, a support I don’t take lightly at 51. In 2024, I expanded the salon to include a wellness-focused suite, and for nearly a year now I’ve been offering Japanese Head Spa services. The response has been humbling. Clients are noticing not just the scalp care benefits, but the deep rest and relaxation that comes with quiet, intentional self-care.

I believe when we calm the mind, the body follows. In that stillness, repair happens—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Creating space for that kind of care is at the heart of what this salon has become.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something people may not know about me is that I deeply love art and creativity. Even when life doesn’t allow much time for it, that part of me still fuels how I design spaces, approach hair, and create moments of calm.
