Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Elfstrom.
Hi Eric, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Eric Elfstrom and I started Elfstrom Media in 2018. My dream is to make it in hip hop music but I started doing photography and videography just as a hobby. As I was getting better with photography, I started getting pulled in multiple directions to shoot and make videos for different people and music groups and then it became my full-time job.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. When your business is constantly growing you have to reinvest into your company constantly. Whenever I have a new job, I constantly try to improve my editing, the way I shoot, or even my vision. I’m very hard on myself at times and critique every detail of my work.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I started off writing and producing hip-hop music. Then I grabbed a camera just for behind-the-scenes shots and then started getting better with my shooting and editing and then my whole business started to blow up. I think anybody that has a vision will set you apart from everybody else. Nobody thinks the same and nobody sees stuff the same. Every creative sees the world differently but it’s up to that person how they capture that moment. I think I’m most known for shooting the legendary hip hop group Naughty By Nature and being a photographer for Illtown Sluggaz which is two-thirds of Naughty by Nature on the New Kids on the Block Mixtape Tour.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Consistency is critical, creating relationships and keeping them is just as important. You have to be very disciplined and humble as well. I think the more you throw yourself into situations you’re uncomfortable with is where you learn the most even if you fail. When you fail you have to look back and figure out exactly where you went wrong and then that is automatically making you better.
