Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Delk.
Hi Dominique , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Dominique Delk, and I am a wife, mom, and entrepreneur with a passion for creativity and connection. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I relocated to Charlotte, NC, in 2016 after graduating college. Together with my husband, a talented photographer, we founded **Upscale Studio and Events** to combine our shared passions for photography and event design. We are proud parents to our 6-year-old son, Ace, and are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our baby girl in March 2025.
The journey to starting Upscale Studio and Events began during the COVID-19 pandemic. With restaurants and social outings paused, I started decorating for intimate, themed gatherings at home for friends and family. As I experimented with event décor and balloon designs, I fell in love with the art of transforming spaces. Encouraged by the success of these gatherings and inspired by a childhood friend who opened an event space in Cleveland, my husband and I envisioned a way to merge his photography expertise with my newfound passion for event design.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Leaving the security of a full-time job was one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made. I walked away from a steady paycheck and stability to chase a vision I believed in. At the time, I didn’t have all the answers, just a deep passion for creating beautiful events and experiences.
Building a brand from the ground up meant learning on the fly—everything from marketing to accounting to customer service. I wear every hat. There were moments I question if Ive made the right choice, especially on the hard days when the bookings aren’t coming in or when I’m stretching every dollar to make rent.
Maintaining a brick-and-mortar space has come with its own set of challenges—utilities, maintenance, overhead, and just the general stress of keeping the doors open while also trying to stay creative. But having a physical location also pushed me to level up. It gave my clients a space to connect with the brand, and it gave me a canvas to bring ideas to life.
There have been late nights, setbacks, and sacrifices. But through it all, the wins—big and small—remind me why I started. I’ve learned that smooth roads don’t build strong entrepreneurs. The tough seasons have taught me resilience, grit, and the importance of staying rooted in my “why.”

At Upscale Studio and Events, we offer a multifunctional space and exceptional services tailored to our clients’ needs. Our photography studio is equipped with studio lighting, backdrops, and props, making it the perfect space for photographers to unleash their creativity. The event space, which can host up to 50 seated guests, provides a blank canvas for any occasion. With included amenities such as tables, chairs, Wi-Fi, and surround sound, we ensure our clients have everything they need for a successful event. Additionally, we offer event décor services to bring any vision to life, featuring centerpieces, focal points, balloons, and backdrops. For larger events, our Upscale Events team provides party rentals and décor throughout Charlotte and the surrounding areas.
We believe in making luxury events accessible to everyone, offering affordable rates without compromising quality. As someone who is naturally shy, building and promoting my business has been a journey of growth and courage. As an advocate for women, especially women of color, moms, and entrepreneurs, I am committed to empowering others while celebrating their unique stories and milestones.
What makes you happy?
My family—without a doubt. My husband, my son Ace, and my daughter Harley are my greatest sources of joy and motivation. They remind me every day why I do what I do. I’m also incredibly grateful to wake up each day and pour my heart into work that I genuinely love. Creating beautiful experiences and running a business I’m passionate about makes me feel fulfilled, inspired, and truly happy.
