Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Hale.
Hi Deborah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Baskets And Balloons By Deborah 23 years ago, I got the idea by seeing a documentary about balloons on TV, I told my husband that I thought that was really cool and that I wanted to do balloons. And it all took off from there. we attended a balloon arts convention about 6 months after I started doing balloons, and this is where I learned a lot about the business. Over the years we have attended several balloon conventions and trainings to learn new ideas and meet others doing balloons as well, we have a large network of balloon professional that we can connect with for help in areas that we are not familiar with or need inspiration. We have had the pleasure over the years to do balloon installs for events at malls that were having celebrities for photo and autograph sessions, many of them were Disney stars, that was pretty cool because we got to meet them and take pictures with them as well. My husband is excellent at doing any rigging that I need done and will also help build things that I need for the larger jobs that we do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
in 2018 I fell and shattered my left shoulder, that put me down for about 5 months, fortunately it was in the fall which is a slower time for me, and I had to slowly get back into a routine and work around my recovery. In 2021 I had covid and was hospitalized for 14 days, this really took its toll on my company, and I almost gave it up, however my doctor encouraged me to keep doing balloons because that is my passion. We were extremely slow for 2022 and in 2024 when things got back to some since of normal and we started to get extremely busy,
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in creating unique balloon decor, many people know me for the creative balloon work that we do for events and parties. I am proud that I didn’t give up during the rough times and that I have done some amazing balloon work and have even met a few celebrities along the way. What sets me apart from others especially in the era of YouTube is that I didn’t set in front of a computer or a phone to learn how to do what I do, I attended trainings and seminars where you get to meet others that share the same passion and learn from them.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband who has helped me a lot over the years, if I need something build or help with decorating, he is there, is very good at helping me with a design if I am not sure how to execute it. He is also good at hanging things when a job requires something be hung
