Conversations with Darsy Amaya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darsy Amaya.

Hi Darsy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
“My story starts in two places at once: hospitals and art studios.

For 22 years, I worked as a certified healthcare interpreter in conventional medicine here in Columbus. I was the bridge between doctors and patients, and I saw firsthand how much stress, fear, and unspoken emotion lived in clinical spaces. People were being treated physically, but their mental, emotional, and spiritual health wasn’t part of the plan.

At the same time, I’ve always been a visual artist and intuitive jewelry designer. I was handcrafting pieces with genuine crystals and semi-precious stones, Reiki infusing them, and watching how color and intention could shift someone’s mood in an instant. That led me to launch White Canvas Designs, and in 2019 we showed our D’ Colores collection at the 10th Annual Fashion Week Columbus. The boutique concept was all white and clean so the color in each design could be the main focus — color as daily self-care.

But I knew I wanted to go deeper. So I trained as a Reiki Master, Associate Polarity Practitioner, and Full Spectrum Holistic Practitioner through NCCOEP, with certifications in Usui Reiki, Tibetan Natural Healing, and advanced Polarity Therapy.

That’s when White Canvas Designs & Holistic Wellness expanded. We kept the jewelry, but added Reiki sessions, Polarity Therapy, chakra balancing, energetic healing combos, relaxation massage, and personal development workshops for small groups, summer camps, retreats, nonprofits, and corporations.

So today, I sit at the intersection of three worlds: clinical, creative, and energetic. I’m a translator — between medicine and intuition, between fashion and healing, between science and soul. My mission is simple: help people re-energize their body and improve overall health by treating the whole person, and do it in a way that feels beautiful.”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
“I’d love to say yes, but no — it hasn’t been a smooth road. Building something that lives between fashion, clinical care, and energy healing means you’re constantly translating.

The first struggle was credibility. For 22 years I worked in hospitals as a certified healthcare interpreter. That world is evidence, speed, and protocols. When I started showing Reiki-infused jewelry at Fashion Week Columbus 2019 and talking about chakra balancing, I had to prove that beauty and energy work weren’t “fluff.” I had to build White Canvas Designs & Holistic Wellness with extreme intentionality: all-white, clean, clinical-looking space where the color in the designs did the talking. No incense cloud. No vague language. Just results.

The second struggle was perception. People would put me in a box: “Are you an artist or a healer?” Insurance companies, venues, even clients at first. Explaining that Polarity Therapy is a bodywork system rooted in osteopathic principles, or that my Full Spectrum Healing Certification includes counseling and nutrition — that took time. I had to educate while I was creating.

The third struggle was scale. We’re a creative family team. Going from handcrafting every necklace to expanding into Reiki sessions, Polarity Therapy, workshops for nonprofits, summer camps, and corporate retreats… that’s a business and an energetic load. I had to learn to receive the same self-care I was teaching: rest, boundaries, asking for help.

But those bumps are why White Canvas exists the way it does today. Because I’ve lived in hospitals and art studios, I can meet a skeptical client with science and a spiritual client with ritual. The road wasn’t smooth, but it taught me to design experiences — and jewelry — that hold people through their own transitions.”

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
“I’m Darsy Amaya, an intuitive jewelry designer, Reiki Master, and Founder/Owner of White Canvas Designs & Holistic Wellness in Columbus. I work at the intersection of fashion, clinical care, and energy medicine.

What I do & specialize in: I specialize in treating the whole person — mental, social, emotional, and spiritual, not just physical. That happens in two ways. First, through holistic services: I’m a Full Spectrum Holistic Practitioner with credentials as an Associate and Advanced Polarity Practitioner, Usui & Tibetan Reiki Master, and Full Spectrum Healing Certification from NCCOEP. We offer Reiki sessions, Polarity Therapy, chakra balancing, Energetic Healing Combos, relaxation massage, and personal development workshops for small groups, summer camps, retreats, nonprofits, and corporations.

Second, through intentional design: I create exclusive, one-of-a-kind jewelry that’s handcrafted with genuine crystals and semi-precious stones, and Reiki infused. Every piece focuses on incorporating color as a daily self-care regimen — to stimulate personal appearance and perk the senses up.

What I’m known for: I’m known for merging aesthetic appeal with healing techniques. Our boutique concept — all white with a clean look so the designs are the main focus — was inspired by our D’ Colores collection shown at the 10th Annual Fashion Week Columbus 2019. Clients come for the beauty and stay for the balance. They tell me they feel like they slept for 10 hours after a session, or that a necklace became their daily anchor.

What I’m most proud of: I’m most proud that we expanded from jewelry into full holistic wellness without losing the artistry. After 22 years as a certified healthcare interpreter in conventional medicine, I saw the gap: people needed beauty and healing. White Canvas is my answer to that.

What sets me apart: We’re a creative family team. I’m a visual artist with over 15 years in integrative medicine. I don’t separate fashion from healing — I combine them. I’m one of the few practitioners in Columbus trained in the full Polarity Therapy system, and one of the few designers Reiki-infusing every piece. I speak three languages: clinical, energetic, and visual. My work is proof you don’t have to choose between science, soul, and style.”

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
“The most important lesson I’ve learned is this: healing doesn’t have to look clinical to be credible, and it doesn’t have to be invisible to be powerful.

For 22 years as a healthcare interpreter, I was trained to trust data, protocols, and what you can measure. As a visual artist and intuitive jewelry designer, I was trained to trust color, intuition, and what you can feel. When I started White Canvas Designs & Holistic Wellness, I thought I had to pick one language.

The lesson came when I stopped choosing.

I watched a client wear one of my Reiki-infused necklaces from Fashion Week Columbus 2019 into her Polarity Therapy session. She said the stone helped her stay grounded enough actually to receive the bodywork. Another client — a nurse — told me she used the breathing technique from our chakra workshop during a code blue, and it kept her calm.

That’s when it clicked: Integration is the medicine. The body doesn’t separate fashion from healing or the clinical from the energetic. We do.

So now I design my jewelry, my studio, and my sessions the same way: all-white, clean, intentional — so the color, the energy, and the person can be the main focus. My job isn’t to impress you with crystals or credentials. It’s to create enough beauty and safety that your own system remembers how to heal.

The lesson is: Don’t dilute your work to fit someone else’s box. Build a bigger box. White Canvas exists because I finally permitted myself to be the integrator between science, soul, and style — and to trust that clients are smart enough to want all three.”
