Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Allred.
Hi Daniel, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I have been musically driven since I was a kid. I would venture off into several careers, but I would always return to making music. After our children were born, I put all my extra effort into building my new project, the DJ CoolRex Project and Premiere Entertainment LLC / Premiere Entertainment Global Publishing Co. Whether it was making songs or beats for eight hours a day, listening to other artists’ songs and mixes, creating cover art, building my website, or establishing an online presence on Google with their business tools. The project is far from what I envision, but most pieces are there for it to continue growing.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the beginning, I DJ’d for free for artist showcases, which would be anywhere from 4 to 6 hrs on the decks, and I did this three or four nights before I got even $50. I went all out from the start, even having a stand with a TV mount on the front, which I had bought just before the gig. I arrived and was frantically setting up, hoping to make it work. We started late, but that was one of the best showcases the venue has seen. Once I had worked my way up to booking with other venues/promoters for higher prices, like $250-$300 a gig for these showcases, I realized I wanted more. I removed all my showcase dj content from my socials and started over as an artist. I probably didn’t need to do this and may have hurt myself more regarding proof, but then I turned towards creating hour-long DJ mixes I could post to SoundCloud and share. After making about 8 of those hour-long mixes, one of them caught the ear of a promoter who booked me to play dubstep for the first time, and that was the first time, just this past weekend, that I got to play the type of music I wanted for people! I had 2 shows, one at 8 pm in North Canton and the other in Bowling, Green at 1 am for the Dancefestopia YBTR tour, which was 2.5 hrs from the other gig! Both events went well, and I had fun, so I’m grateful for that! I’m also thankful for my wife, who has gone out of her way to help me get word out about my album, which was released on March 1st! My brothers are also super supportive, especially Jake, who is three years deep into his DJ business, the Man Entertainment LLC in TN, and his Artist project SPECS. He has always pushed me to get to the next level, whatever that may be. He will send me logins for different sample libraries and courses for learning, and he listens, likes, and shares all of my content, which helps a lot. Our youngest brother Sam has also been pursuing music in the hip-hop/rap world for some time now, and I even collaborated with him early on for the first few months when I first learned how to make beats. All in all, I’m excited that people are enjoying the project, and it’s fantastic to see other artists I connect with on socials and SoundCloud growing as well!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am in the electronic music industry, and my experience ranges from dubstep to house to experimental bass. I play what I want, but I introduce the songs so that most people can digest and enjoy them. I use a few tricks to create unexpected excitement between tracks to make them work for me and the audience!
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Chase your dreams, man. Whatever they are, as much or as little as you can commit at any time is a plus! Time is the most significant factor in building a presence. I’ve never been afraid to fail. I’m riddled with anxiety about the idea of failing, but I charge head first into sharing my mixes/songs/album art with as many people as I can.
