Conversations with Clay Wolfe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clay Wolfe.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
So, I started blacksmithing/bladesmithing about 6 months before covid hit. I didn’t take it too serious at first. But once the lockdowns happened, it turned into a more extreme hobby, an outlet, a therapy session, and a way to keep my sanity during the whole thing. I became obsessed with it and improved my skills and quality of products I was making. Ended up making it onto the History channels Forged in Fire and was a finalist and have tried to improve and push myself further since then

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
You it has been mostly smooth, but there are always bumps in the road Mental struggles of the shutdown, also Self-doubt in what you’re doing, and a lapse in business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make custom order knives. Anything from a pocket knife to hunting knives to full kitchen sets. My main focus is hunting/outdoor knives

What sets me apart, in my opinion, is my creative thought process on how I can make different patterns and designs, and handles for my knives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve had strokes of good luck and bad luck.

Good luck – making it on Forged in Fire and making it to the finals

– finding a guy who wanted a machete of mine to walk the Appalachian trail and document the whole trip
