Conversations with Chantelle Berry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chantelle Berry.

Hi Chantelle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Chantelle Berry and an emerging abstract artist out of the good ole Columbus, Ohio area! Art has always captivated my heart in some way or fashion, and a couple of years ago, after a chain of events of walking away from my daytime job, I started pursuing what naturally flowed out of my heart which was painting, more specifically watercolor. I had a couple of very interesting and quite divine events that eventually led to me starting to pursue what this would look like If I had done this full-time. I had friends and family who really supported my journey, and it just felt right, and so I gave art everything I had and have done this full-time ever since!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Mhm… great question. I don’t know if anything significant is ever smooth per se. I’ve had my ups and downs as any artist. Finding my style, finding my voice, and perfecting my craft while also maintaining to hold onto my joy with my gift. I believe this is something I’ve been created for, and it takes time cultivating what that truly looks like. So yeah, it’s been smooth in the sense of pursuing what you’re created for would look like, but it’s also been one of the most beautifully difficult things I’ve ever done, which I guess where the fun in overcoming comes from!

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in abstract expressionism. I would say what I am trying to communicate through art is the beauty of life as a human, the ebbs and flows, seasons we go through, emotions, battles, and victories while combining all of that with my faith. My faith has been the lens I choose to see everything from and so for me, I wanted to birth my entire practice out of that and two main themes… peace and love. That’s my mission, releasing art in a way that usher’s people into a state of peace, love, and serenity. That’s what I would also say I am most proud of. I would say the choice to use my faith in my artwork is also what separates me from a lot of other artists.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned is that I was created uniquely and that it’s vital I pursue what naturally flows out of me while also protecting that. I am a firm believer every single human is set apart and uniquely made. Out of that, you find your own artistic flare. I’ve also learned that comparison is truly the thief of joy. So, stay true to who you are, even if no one else agrees with it.
