Conversations with Bobby Boyd Jr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby Boyd Jr.

Hi Bobby, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started making music when I was 16. I would freestyle at the lunch table with friends and they convinced me I could really rap. I didn’t record my first song till the year after that but even then, I wasn’t taking serious till I performed for the first time in 2019. That was the moment I knew music was my path.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve had many struggles during on this journey and I’m sure I’ll have many more. The first studio I ever recorded a song in shut down and I lost all the original track outs to my first ep. Last year in September my sister passed away which has made it hard to even create. I struggle every day because she was one of my biggest support systems but that’s also why I keep going.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think outside looking in I’d be considered a “rapper” but I like to think of myself as a lyrical artist. The distinction being I can make some very thought-provoking songs like my singles “Whole Lotta” or “Food For Thought” but I can also make songs you can just let the beat carry you and vibe like “Too Skeezy”. I don’t think I specialize in anything particular I would say I’m a jack of all trades master of none… maybe some. I’m definitely more known for my freestyles which I post on Instagram @yafynthegoat and YouTube. I would say I’m most proud of my growth and everything I’ve learned on this continued journey. What sets me apart would have to be my willingness to learn. Every bit of knowledge I obtain I use in my music to make new creative flows.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think right place right time has definitely had a positive effect on my music. I got to play a track for T-Pain while he was streaming and it was received well which gained me a lot of attention fast that I don’t think I would’ve gotten as quickly without that happening.
