Conversations with Bert Franco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bert Franco. Them and their team share their story with us below:

The Modernes started as a Craigslist ad. Bert (guitar/vocals) and Nick (drums/vocals) met after Bert posted on the Akron Musicians Community page on CL. Bert was moving from Ann Arbor to be closer to family and get a fresh start. Nick was looking for something a little more than a cover band and jived with the material in the post. The two bonded through a similar pedigree of Punk and Indie music. After a jam session it was obvious the two personalities meshed.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Personnel… We could commiserate for hours on the difference between Ann Arbor/Detroit and Akron/Cleveland scenes but we will come out with more things in common. We struggled finding a 3rd player. We have been fortunate enough to have some amazing people roll through the bass spot. Players who have had long-lasting impacts on the band. But it was clear we wanted to forge our own path and create original content. That puts a rift in the hiring process for folks who are just happy doing the cover or tribute act –which we get! We were all in cover bands and put in our time. Making something original and sweating out songs is insanely tough work. Some people see that and bounce.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
The Modernes are a Rock and Roll band from Akron, Ohio.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We are working on a new album, “Travelers” that we aim to have out in September of 2022.
