Today we’d like to introduce you to Bailey Daniels.

Bailey Daniels

Hi Bailey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My working career started out in the corporate world, which I began to learn was not the right fit for me. I always thought it would be a fun and rewarding career to work in the skincare world instead and get to tackle clients skin heath issues and find working solutions for them.

So, when I was 23, I put myself through esthetics school working full time and going to school full time. When I graduated, I quickly realized how much time and effort you need to put yourself out there so that people feel comfortable with you and trust what you are doing with their bodies. You have to have a lot of patience, work ethic, and perseverance in this industry. After having lived out on my own since I was young and really having to depend on myself, I knew I had the hustle and drive to get me where I wanted to be and manifested my vision every day.

I worked at a couple different places, working on my craft and gaining experience with different techniques, products, and skin types. It wasn’t until I was coming up on my 10th year as an esthetician that I really started to get the itch to have my own spot and learn some new skills.

A good friend of mine owns a private tattoo studio, and after having dinner one night, she invited me to come to check out her beautiful space to see if it would be a good fit for me to have my own business. Kind of like a collective studio space. As soon as I walked up the stairs, I knew this is what I was looking for. The energy was magnetic, the location was great, and I could finally have a space that was mine to have total creative freedom with. And now working in a space that had a tattoo license meant I could learn cosmetic tattooing and bring my career to a new level.

It took another five months to go back into the classroom to learn a few other new skills I had been interested in, all while still working, raising a 2-year-old, and learning how to open a business.

During this time my health was really declining, and I was feeling horrible on a daily basis. I thought it was from the stress and sleepless nights, but I ended up being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s which is a thyroid autoimmune condition. It caused me to have to completely change my lifestyle and slow down. There were definitely times that I was questioning whether I was making the right decision for me and my family. I was leaving a very comfortable job to go out on my own with no guarantee that I would have as many clients in the beginning or even be able to run a business which I had zero experience in. So, to say it took a toll on both my physical and mental health is an understatement.

Fast forward to now… Juniper Room Esthetics (which I named after my daughter) is thriving, I have a bigger client base then I did when I started and most importantly both my physical and mental health have vastly improved. I feel so blessed to be where I am and humbled that so many people come to support me every day and believe in me and what I have to offer them. I look forward to the future as I continue to grow, all while staying present and living in the moment, and enjoying every bit of it!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building all of the business on my own without loans or help definitely had its challenges. I was working a lot and saving every penny. But I just kept my goals in site and knew that it would be worth the struggle in the end. It is very intimidating working on the business side of it and not just the esthetician side, which I was way more comfortable with.

My physical health played a major role too. When your mind and body aren’t functioning properly it’s a recipe for disaster. There were moments of frustration and anxiety dealing with this new condition I was diagnosed with. I knew I had to keep my mind focused on my new business, but your health is everything, so I had to make sure I wasn’t overdoing it and making sure I was taking care of myself along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I take the holistic approach when looking at a client’s skin. It’s easy to see what’s going on at the surface level, but your face tells an internal story and will say a lot about what is not functioning properly in the body. I’m obviously not a physician, so I do refer people to get a diagnosis from one, but it’s a huge passion of mine to be the support they need along the way with the right products and skin care treatments that I am certified in.

Facials, which include dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, gentle peels, and red-light therapy, are what I’m best known for.

I also do facial waxing and cosmetic tattooing of the eyebrows!

I do a lot of research with products and effective ingredients so that I can take the stress and confusion off my client and recommend the best fit for their skin type. It’s so rewarding to watch someone progress on their skin health journey. I’ve seen not only physical but emotional changes in people when they might be feeling self-conscious about their skin. I get to know almost each and every one of my clients personally to where they become friends, or I end up working on entire families and friend groups. Which is so humbling and motivating!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up in a very religious household and community. It was very isolated from anyone who wasn’t a part of it, and always being afraid of doing the wrong thing does a number on you from a young age. Which caused me to have a lot of anxiety and to be pretty introverted.

Fortunately, as a teenager, a lot of that went away as I started to find myself in music, art, and books. That became my new religion. Music was and still is a huge part of my life and has shaped who I am today. I learned to read music and played the cello growing up. But then, once I discovered punk rock, that turned into me learning to play guitar and bass. I would sit in my room for hours listening to songs I loved and teaching myself how to play them.

Going to see the bands I loved really helped me to come out of shell, meet new friends, and eventually break away from the grip that the religion had on me and follow my own spiritual journey. Much to the dismay of my family, who, most, to this day, still do not speak to me because of my decision to go down my own path.
