Conversations with Anthony Cross

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Cross.  

Hi Anthony, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started my business after some pioneers I follow in the motorcycle fashion culture (Rockboy Choppers, Get You A Bagger, and Glide Lyfe) are some that inspired me. During a family trip to New York, I met up with Meatloaf of Rockboy Choppers to buy a hoodie and we chopped it up for a minute about life and business. I got home and started watching the motorcycle culture on Instagram including the pioneers and was really feeling their design and fabrics. After Thanksgiving, feeling good and full I go to bed and I believe I start dreaming which is rare and when I woke up, I kept hearing my inner monologue saying BBL, so I’m like damn. Then I was thinking about motorcycles and heard my late grandmother and my dad’s voice saying go for it. So, I look in my bathroom mirror at myself like “what the hell” then all of a sudden, I kept saying Black Bags. After a while lifestyle came up in my thoughts and then I started thinking of the motorcycle culture. I walked into my closet and looked at the hoodie from Meatloaf and then it hit me BBL will be Black Bagger Lifestyle and that evening I started the LLC process. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been hills and Valleys. When I became official, I was heavily promoting without a heat press or design, just the word Black Bagger Lifestyle. I then got with some close friends and family on the design and when I had my logo motorcycle, I then asked my daughter who’s heavy on the iPad to create the BBL in the center. She started our first logo and now it was who is going to create the vinyl for a shirt/hoodie smh. After some networking with people and a refreshed logo after selling 12 demo pieces, we started having views from the page. Orders were booming people were calling and then it was time for a website and so we created www.blackbaggerlifestyle.com. Business increased for a solid 6-7 months, I’m making 5-6 orders a day on average and I’m not sleeping until orders are filled and ready for next day delivery, and this is happening after my 9 to 5. Other struggles would be keeping certain colors and sizes on deck, since I’m an in-house operation I have to stay on top of the inventory when it’s low. Another would be people want the back door, out the trunk discount and my reply are always going to the website, we are a legitimate business so the support is welcome. 

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work for a transit company as a Senior Supervisor. I specialize in communication. I’m known for my positive energy and laid-back style that is cool calm and collective. I’m most proud of seeing people happy, whether it’s my family, friends, my team, or my customers. In my eye, they are priority number 1. What sets me apart from others is that I have an inviting aura and a great sense of humor.
