Today we’d like to introduce you to Annalise Zink.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always loved being behind the camera. However, I felt unqualified to start my own thing. I felt like I was too late in the game and that there was no point in starting now. At the time, I was running social media pages for my job, and the more and more I took pictures, the more I felt drawn to the idea of starting my own business. I am fortunate enough to have people around me who encourage me and believe in me. The encouragement I received from others gave me the courage to say “heck with it, let’s do this thing!” It has been less than a year since The Well Photography was born, and the support I have received is overwhelming. I could not be more thankful for the love I have received, as well as clients who want me to take their pictures! Although I still feel unqualified to do this, I am turning those feelings into thankfulness and gratitude for the privilege to do what I do!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been perfectly smooth…I would say the greatest struggle along the way is comparison. It is so easy to fall into a pattern of comparing my work to others and feeling discouraged very quickly. The hard realization for me was that no one jumps right to 100. I have to start at 1 and then with time, messing up, and learning, I will slowly take steps forward. When I accept where I am at, it’s far easier to not compare myself and work to others.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
This past year I have the privilege of being the store manager and social media coordinator at the best boutique in Columbus (wink wink) Finn & Roe. I recently left this position with the hope of going back to school to be a teacher! I am currently working for Noble Media Co., a wonderful social media management company. I would say social media content creation is a specialization of mine. I love to take flat lay pictures, coordinate color aesthetics, and just create things!
I am most proud of myself for not giving up. I would’ve never expected my career coming out of college to look the way it does, and I am okay with it! My career looks a little different, and truthfully, I am still figuring it out. Will, I ever have it figured out? Probably not, and that is okay! There is so much more in this short life than work. I think it is important to do our job well, whatever it may be, and love others well.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I know who I am in Jesus. The world tells us a heck of a lot of things about our identity, which is crippling. I know that I am loved and chosen by Jesus, which is the foundation for just about every fiber of my being.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Truthfully, it has not played any part for me. When things out of my control go well, I try to have an attitude of gratitude and thankfulness. I see it as a gift rather than luck. If things out of my control (or in my control) go horribly wrong…well, that is life, and things don’t always go as planned. I can typically learn something from those situations and figure out a way to do things differently next time. If it rains on a photoshoot day…oh well…the earth needs to be watered. Let’s reschedule!
