Conversations with Amanda Wooton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Wooton.

Hi Amanda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, my grandpa worked developing film for a local store. During any family get-together, he would always have the camera out taking pictures. He started bringing home disposable cameras for us kids to take pictures and then got them developed for us….. I guess you could say that’s where it all started.

Over the years, my interest for photography grew. In high school we had photography electives and I made sure to take every one offered. My family noticed my growing love for photography and all went in on a camera for a gift one year. I continued to teach myself and practice over the years. I practiced on family and friends and spent many hours reading, watching tutorials and trying new things to achieve the look I envisioned.

As more years passed, my husband knew I needed an upgrade to my camera so again my wonderful family all went in on one. At that point I started gathering attention and interest and started taking on clients. This became a side business for me as I still had a full time job outside of photography. Once my husband and I had our daughter we made the decision for me to stay home with her and continue my photography business. From there I’ve continued to educate myself to achieve the look I want and my business continues to grow each year thanks to all my friends, family and amazing clients. 🙂

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it’s been a smooth process however juggling motherhood with two children and now sports in the mix things can get hectic at times. Thankfully I have an amazing supportive husband and family and friends who are there when needed. 🙂

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I primarily photograph children, families and seniors. I guess you could say I’m known for my bold, vibrant colors in my photographs which set me apart from others. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come in my business and editing style over the years. It’s taken a lot of devoted time teaching myself to achieve my look.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I enjoy following other photographers and creatives that inspire me and occasionally taking any online workshops or tutorials they may offer.

We love Amanda Wooton Photography! She has been our primary family photographer for years. She is so great with our 6 year old daughter and is somehow able to catch the best smiles even when she is a wild child! Great write up!
