Conversations with Adam Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Jones.

Hi Adam, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our store started in 2009 with a different owner and we purchased it from him in March of 2014. Started hosting more tournaments and working more with our Parks and their courses. Both members of our local DG Club, GCDGA, and I have served as President and VP for several years. We also host one of 20+ Disc Golf Pro Tour Tournaments at Idlewild DGC in Burlington KY and this is our 10th year. We are the largest DG Pro Shop in our area but the only one located on a disc golf course. We also help with course design and guidance. Teach many new players and host clinics for schools and scouts.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Each year has it’s unique struggles as our sport is seasonal so the winter months are tougher of course but you learn to plan for it. Covid boom was great but now that our economy has changed and not in a good way we have been seeing a drastic drop in sales and tournament attendance. Not just our area but throughout the country we are seeing the same decline and problems that brings to other retailers like us.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Each day we help customers find the right disc for their needs or abilities which can be challenging with so many options to choose from. I specialize in the more competitive side of the sport as I used to compete regularly in the professional divisions. I now teach more than play and spend a great deal of time volunteering with our Parks helping them improve their courses. Most proud of what we have been able to accomplish with the design and installation of Osage Grove DGC in Goshen which was a Club project done entirely by volunteers. Another is creating the event for the DGPT at Idlewild in 2017 and growing it too what it has become as one of the best events on the tour favored by the players, dgpt staff and spectators. I don’t think there is anything that really sets me apart from others or my business partner Jason, we both strive to do the best we can and give it everything we have and it shows.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the best lessons in life is not what you know but who you know. We all need help and support and can’t really do it all ourselves. That whole “team work makes the dream work” is very true. That’s just one of dozens and dozens of lessons we all learn as we journey through life. Each day we should be learning something new and if you’re not you’re probably not paying attention…
