Today, we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Smith.
Hi Aaron, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
From the age of two, I was drawn to the rhythmic allure of drums. It began innocently enough, tapping away on makeshift instruments, pots, and pans! Like any typical kid.
My parents recognized my natural talent and unwavering dedication and embraced and nurtured my musical journey. Being encouraged by their unwavering support, I delved deeper into the world of rhythm, honing my skills with every passing year. As well as sharpening and shaping my other gifts, such as singing and playing the piano.
As I grew, so did your love for music, becoming an inseparable part of my identity. With each musical note or new sound, I would discover a new facet of myself, a language of expression that transcended words.
Today, I stand as a testament to the power of support and determination, gracing stages across the globe, both as a solo artist and alongside renowned musicians. My journey from a two-year-old tapping on pots and pans to an international touring musician/artist is a testament to the transformative power of music and unwavering parental encouragement.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road at all. In the entertainment industry, you hear a lot of “No’s” Before you hear the yes. A lot of people will envy your gift, not realizing what comes with it and not understanding how hard you’ve worked. You will go days going broke or being taken advantage of, especially if you’re young in the industry and don’t know any better. It’s a lot of things you have to overcome in order to even have any kind of success in this part of the entertainment industry. You have to have a strong will to push through and not give up no matter what is thrown your way. It takes a special individual to push through and keep going.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to pursue my passion for music on an international level.
I’ve toured across the globe to playing alongside some incredibly talented artists, I’ve been able to experience the magic of music in so many different ways. Whether it’s been with Ukrainian pop sensation Tina Karol, Major Gospel group The Williams Singers, or the dynamic jazz trio Concurrence, each collaboration has shaped my artistry in its own unique way.
My musical education took me to Berklee College of Music and Indiana University, where I honed my skills and deepened my understanding of the craft. But it’s been through my own band, “Aaron Smith & RDAA,” where I’ve truly found my voice and connected with audiences in a meaningful way. We have been currently touring across the Midwest.
Recently, in 2020, I released my solo record, “765,” under the moniker “The Aaron Smith Experience,” and I’m currently hard at work on my sophomore album, “1991,” featuring some incredible talents like BSLADE, Micki Miller, Amber Navran, Doobie Powell and more.
What sets me apart as an artist is my commitment to creating a sound that’s uniquely mine. I believe that as musicians, our goal is to transcend generations with our music, and I’m proud to say that I’ve been able to carve out a sound that’s undeniably my own.
But beyond the music, I’m most proud of the person I’m becoming every day, and I owe so much of that to my incredible wife and children, who inspire and motivate me in ways I never thought possible.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice is to never give up on your love and passion for music. Always remember why you’re doing it or why you love it. Never be motivated from the amount of money you can make from it. But, be motivated for the sake of the art. That mindset is priceless. The moment I stopped worrying about how much I could make, that’s when I started making real money. Always Keep God first, and always remember why you chose to do this. It’s because you love it.
