Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Mills.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For as long as I can remember, I have always been passionate about helping people, a principle that I have faithfully abided by both personally and professionally. Coming out of college, already having 2 children, it was important for me to get a job and work on a career. I transitioned into accounting, but I always felt a bit of unfulfillment, even though I was grateful for employment and the ability to spoil my kids. The first thing I did was start a nonprofit called She’s Healed. I worked with women that had experienced domestic violence. I volunteered at the homeless shelter, provided meals, as well as resume and interview skills training. I also spoke at the Marion’s men prison as part of their transition class for violent offenders that were soon to be released. Knowing that I was making a positive impact in people’s lives gave me a great sense of purpose. Over the years, I’ve continued to excel in my career, but know that it’s also necessary to feel that I’m helping others. Last year I transitioned into real estate. This, for me, is a dream come true as I not only get to serve clients by guiding them home, but I also get to cultivate lasting relationships with them. Recognizing that real estate is one of the most important investments we will ever make in life and a means to build wealth for our families, I feel that my impact goes far beyond just the client.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been some struggles along the way for sure. At the time of going back to college to finish my MBA, I lost my job and in the middle of divorce. I was trying to maintain the stability for my children, keep bills paid, and still accomplish my educational goals because I knew that would get me where I wanted to be financially. I also realized that when there’s chaos all around, I tap into this incredible focus, and there’s really nothing that I can’t do. I had an incredible friend/sister who allied my children and I to stay with her until I got a job, which took about a month. I was then able to move back into an apartment, and I honkered down. With the help of an amazing realtor, she helped me to create a budget, and although I was making the same, I was no longer living check to check. A year later, I was able to buy my home. I graduated with my MBA shortly after, gave the valedictorian speech to my class, and felt so empowered to be an example to other women that had experienced similar circumstances.
We’ve been impressed with Victoria Mills, Realtor ®, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been licensed as a Realtor since September 2022 in the state of Ohio. Ironically, as of today, I have been able to assist several single moms in creating a budget and savings goal. This was the skill that was given to me, and I’m happy to be able to pass that knowledge on to others. There’s nothing more rewarding than helping someone to become self-sufficient. I also know firsthand that when children see their mom accomplish this, it instills in them that they’re able to do this too. It creates such an admiration and appreciation in them that has given me so much drive and determination.
So, I help buyers and sellers with their real estate needs: Marketing, budgets, helping with preapproval with other industry professionals. Although I’m licensed in Ohio only for now, I will get licensed in Kentucky before the year is up. I’m also able to provide referrals for areas outside of my scope.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
It’s easy to give up. It’s important to be driven, persistent and to rely on faith when things seem as though they just won’t work out. You have to be willing to put in the work, no matter how difficult. Don’t expect things to be handed to you. It’s important to set goals, note the steps needed to get there, and then jump head first into it.
