Today we’d like to introduce you to Tynetta Stafford.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I actually taught myself how to braid when I was a young girl. I would always do my doll’s Hair. As I got older, I would always say, “I’m going to cosmetology school,” because at that point, hair was and still is my passion. The only thing is I didn’t end up going to cosmetology school right out of high school. I worked different jobs until I also loved doing home care, which I also happen to have a Home Care business as well. I tried out a few different daycares because I also love kids. That was up until I became pregnant, and I had gotten further along and could no longer work and keep up with the kids. After that, I quit my job, stepped out on faith, and started braiding hair. I am a licensed braider in the state of Ohio. The Name of my business is BeYOUtiful Braids. No matter what, always be yourself; it’s more beautiful that way. I was always often told I couldn’t braid, or I braid tight for “no reason” because it wasn’t cute, but I didn’t let that stop me. I would always practice everything on my own hair first, and YouTube was often my teacher. I think it’s the best feeling when someone asks who does your hair, and I say, “ME.” I’ve been braiding for a little over 5 years now, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’d love to have my own braid salon soon, where I can also hold braid classes for the youth, young adults, as well as adults. I’m learning every day, so as I learn, I’d love to teach others.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing. When I first started, I obviously wasn’t as good as I thought I was. It was hard finding clientele because they didn’t trust me lol. I felt like it would look good on me and not them, so I kept practicing and practicing. As I went along my journey, I figured I could find one or two things to specialize in, and that became the knotless braids and feed-in braids, and now that’s all my clients want
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about BeYOUtiful Braids?
BeYOUtiful Braids came about in 2019. I am a licensed braider in the state of Ohio. I specialize in Knotless Braids as well as Feedin/Stitch Braids. What sets me apart from others is my ability to connect with my clients on a soul level. I’m not only someone my clients can come to get their hair braided, but I’m also someone they can confide in and feel comfortable knowing it won’t get to the next client or around the shop. I also specialize in servicing those with autism.
How do you define success?
Success is when you’ve done your due diligence in the community, and not only are you successful, but also those that are around you and people can benefit from what you’ve created or from the services you provide
