Community Highlights: Meet Tia Long of Embelline Design Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Long.

Hi Tia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I lived in several large rural farmhouses. I remember early in my life having a deep appreciation and love for every little detail of historical homes—from the high ceilings and unique quirky spaces to the craftsmanship and artistry. Looking back, between being naturally artistic and also some of the most influential people in my life being in the building industry, really it only makes sense that all of these experiences would have shaped me. My mother absolutely loved decorating and she would always have me right there by her side, through her various projects, to help with things like painting and peeling wallpaper. I have a lot of fond memories surrounding the home with regard to decorating and hosting because of her. Later when I met my husband, he loved to work with his own hands and just make things happen. I’ve always been there, right by his side, learning all of the many facets of the construction process. Whatever the job calls for, he can figure it out. Our whole marriage, our joy has surrounded the home. We love to host and have always been invested in creating spaces that encourage connection and community. After being blessed with five children, a couple of years ago, I felt a strong tug to finally pursue my lifelong dream of becoming an interior designer. It’s so rewarding to be able to share all of the gifts that I have with others, to help them love their homes more, and to create beautiful spaces for life to be shared.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Having a big family while continuing my education was extremely difficult, but they were supportive, and we made it through it! Anything in life worth having takes a lot of hard work and commitment, but when it’s something you truly love and are passionate about, what could seem like mountains ends up feeling more like bumps along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of Embelline Design Company. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I started Embelline Design Company last year and we have a wide range of offerings, we can do anything from paint consultations and decorating to full-service interior design. Because of my background, I especially love working in historical spaces that have a lot of character. For us, each project isn’t just about the end result, but it is also about the journey; we are excited for each opportunity to meet and connect with others in a meaningful way. Our ultimate goal is to work alongside a community of like-minded builders, craftsman, artisans, and artists to offer our clients the best end result, but also that they would feel heard and well cared for through the process.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Over the years, we have taken a lot of risks, but they’ve always been meaningful ones! Our decisions have always gone back to our core values. When a situation comes down to the safe path versus the difficult one, we’ve always leaned into what will most honor our faith and commitment to our children and family first and foremost.
