Community Highlights: Meet Tammy Toth of Sweet Surprises

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Toth.

Hi Tammy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story began when I was about 8 years old and my Grandmother took me to Sweet Surprises. This is when my love for baking and chocolate making was born. I got my very first chocolate mold and a pound of chocolate. That Thanksgiving I started making chocolate trays for my parents friends and my little side gig started. Over the next 42 years I in one way or another kept my hands in baking and chocolate making. I have worked for some of the most well known local chocolate companies. So when the opportunity came to purchase a long time staple of the baking community I had to take my childhood dreams to the next level. I retired from my corporate job and jumped into the retail world of cake and candy supplies.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I often say that I have the greatest job in the world, I play with chocolate and sprinkles all day. With that said there are several vendor and supply issues we have had to deal with. Now with the ongoing issues with tariffs those supply issues are amplified but we are working to keep the shelves stocked and keep the prices reasonable.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SWEET SURPRISES?
Sweet Surprises is your local cake and candy supply store. We have everything you need to decorate and deliver the most stylish and creative cakes and candy. Our customers often comment that they have cut down the amount of items they order from the Big Box stores since we have everything they want at a very reasonable price.

we are always on the hunt for the latest trends and newest products.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see a lot of new home bakers and the younger generation taking an interest in the creative side of life. I expect the bakers and crafters of the world to continue to grow.
