Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Ball.
Hi Shelby, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I always enjoyed hair, makeup, and fashion. I attended Boardman Schools but knew at a young age I could start my career early on, so along with Boardman I attended the MCC&TC in Canfield in 2003. I had a family friend who owned a hair salon, who took me on at such a young age and allowed me to work behind the chair at 16 as I attended my schooling for my license. After graduation in 2005, I continued to work behind the chair, building my clientele taking in as much experience as I could. I furthered my education at Youngstown State University, obtaining a degree in Business Administration, specifically Marketing as I knew I always wanted to have my own salon one day and this would give me the business background I needed. I became an educator for several color companies, did free-lance makeup and events, and opened my first travelling makeup business in 2008, called The Glam Box LLC by Shelby. I specialized specifically in airbrush makeup and formal hair services for wedding parties and special events. It still is going strong today. Also, during this time, I welcomed 3 beautiful daughters into my life that needed their mom home with flexibility in my schedule to be there for them always. This ended my travelling days of educating. As I continued expanding my portfolio in different areas in the field, and working at many different salons growing my clientele, I knew it was the right time to take the next step and open my very own salon, Studio 7 LLC. It was established in 2014. We were located in Boardman, Ohio. I had a wonderful staff and it was always a great atmosphere. I have always been an entrepreneur and enjoyed all aspects of the field. I enjoyed managing and owning the salon along with working behind the chair. It flourished over the 7 years it was open, but after a short 9 week period of being shutdown during covid, I decided it was time to close my doors in that building and re-open them in my own private double suite. I am still located in Boardman, with now 23 years experience, I shifted my focus back to the one on one relationship with this business, and that is my clients. They are the most important piece in this field, Customer service is the utmost important quality. Building relationships with the clients, networking with many across the industry, and mastering my skills by attending regular educating seminars is what my business strives on. I am passionate about this industry and that’s what enriches my success today!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every business has its ups and downs. Challenges are always faced by business owners. It just is your job to figure out the best solution, grow from it, and overcome it. That is what defines success. For me, I have experienced both many times. A smooth road is often established once client trust happens. You offer all your knowledge and guidance during your consultation and build that relationship. A challenge inevitable, like Covid. It was out of my control. I did whatever I had to do in those moments to make sure that smooth road was established once again. And that was simply acting quick, making changes within the salon, and making sure the clients trust was solid again.
We’ve been impressed with Studio 7 LLC , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Studio 7 LLC, is a salon located within Aria Salon Studios, in Boardman, Ohio. Now, in a private, luxurious suite I am able to offer even more professional, classy, and luxurious experiences for my guests. I also have the option for private services unlike a regular salon in the past. I offer a variety of hair and makeup services to women, men, and children in the surrounding area. I am a Master Stylist & Colorist, offering all color services, waxing, airbrush makeup, and Wedding/Special Event Hair and Makeup. Aside from servicing a regular clientele, I offer onsite hair and makeup for special events and bridal services in the Northeast Ohio and Pennsylvania area. Studio 7 features these services through my other business called, The Glam Box LLC by Shelby. I am currently accepting new clients as I have decided to expand my schedule. Attention to detail, thorough consultations, and client satisfaction is just a few to name that backs my reputation behind the chair in this area. I genuinely care about my clients, from their appointment to what is going on in their everyday life. They become part of my family and a lifelong friend. I am passionate about this industry and making people feel beautiful. It is absolutely rewarding in itself!
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Outside of the salon, my most important role is being a mother to my 3 beautiful daughters, Gabriella, Giuliana, and Gia. We enjoy spending time together, whether its through their sports and music commitments, or attending to our wide array of animals at home. We love vacationing, being outdoors, shopping, coffee dates, and most importantly simply just being together. Family means everything to us.
