Community Highlights: Meet Robyn McGeorge of Robyn’s Nest animal rescue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn McGeorge.

Hi Robyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I graduated from University of Cincinnati, Raymond Walters College in 1994 as a Registered Veterinary Technician. I’ve been working at Twin Maples Veterinary Hospital ever since. In 2005 I founded Robyn’s Nest animal rescue as a foster network and started rescuing dogs, cats, and small animals. In 2008 we opened a facility in Miamisburg. In 2015 we moved to a larger facility in Germantown where we can house more animals and have a wonderful green space and walking trails for exercise for the dogs.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Learning the business side of running a rescue has been a challenge. Thanks to local mentors and continuing education classes, we have managed to stay afloat in this difficult economic climate, and we have grown every year. Our biggest obstacle currently is trying to help with the large number of stray dogs and cats in our county. We are fielding many calls a day about found animals and trying very hard to help as many as we can and offer advice to people on what to do.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Robyn’s Nest, Inc. animal rescue?
Robyn’s Nest rescues dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, ferrets, and potbellied pigs. We house many animals in our Germantown facility but also try to get many into foster homes. We take in strays, owner surrenders, abuse cases, and animals facing euthanasia in shelters. We offer training and behavior work and the best vet care available in order to get every animal healthy, happy, and adoptable. We then do our best to find them a great forever home. We have always taken in a lot of animals from owners who have passed away or entered nursing homes, but we are currently taking in mostly strays due to the large population in our county at this time. We offer bathing and boarding services as well as a retail area with pet supplies and gifts in order to help support our rescue. I believe we are different from most rescues in that we are run by a registered veterinary technician, and we are often told that we are the only rescue who has answered our phone, or returned their call, or given them any advice. I am also proud to be the only rescue in town with a facility who always takes back any animal we adopted out if needed. We do everything we can to make sure each animal is cared for to the best of our ability and work very hard to match them with a good home who will give them great vet care and lots of love.

Any big plans?
I am hoping to move once again to a new facility in the next couple of years. I would like to buy a building with a great green space and no longer rent. I would like to have more space for the dogs to exercise, both inside and out. I would also like to have more space for exercise and enrichment for the small animals in our care, such as guinea pigs and rats.
