Today we’d like to introduce you to Rafi Gola.
Hi Rafi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am a 22-year-old creative entrepreneur from Chicago, Illinois. My filmmaking journey started in high school, where I captured my school’s basketball games at William Howard Taft High School and started an Instagram page called “Taft Mixtapes.” It began to get a lot of buzz around my school, and that’s when it hit me: I could turn this passion into something more. It was a pivotal moment that set me on the path to where I am today. Along the way, I’ve had unique opportunities to work alongside athletes such as Dwayne Wade, Allen Iverson, and Demar Derozan. But why stop at sports? I soon found myself moving into the music industry, where I got to cover tours of some of the best artists in the world, such as Drake, Travis Scott, Lil Durk, etc. And now? I work with brands such as Fashion Nova, Foot Locker, and Chicago Fire, providing video ads, photography, and short-form content. The journey’s been wild, but I look forward to what the future holds for me next.
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
My journey has been a testament to the adage that success is not a straight path. The reality of this field is that it demands an immense amount of behind-the-scenes work, often unnoticed. One of the biggest hurdles I encountered was maintaining consistency while juggling multiple responsibilities. The trifecta of my studies at DePaul University, a part-time job, and managing clients for my business often felt overwhelming. It was a constant battle to prioritize and stay focused. However, after graduating from college, I left my part-time job and fully committed to my creative agency. This shift allowed me to channel my energy into ensuring consistency in my brand messaging, visual identity, and overall consumer experience across all platforms. The journey was arduous, but the lessons I learned have been invaluable in shaping my path forward.
